Dear experienced friends,
I am an Indian citizen about to legally marry my Malaysian gf (non-Indian origin) in Malaysia ;already submitted our documents in Putrajaya and now waiting out the 21days notice. My questions are:

1.Is the Malaysian marriage certificate only attested by the Indian Consulate in KL ,or do they(Indian consulate) issue a marriage certificate of their own after assessing the Malaysian marriage certificate(note: i am not going to marry in Indian consulate there which is another method of marrying a Malaysian).
2.Once the Indian Consulate attests my Malaysian Marriage Certificate, do I need to re-register it again in India to make our marriage legal or the attestation is enough for legal purposes in India(eg Entry visa application/OCI)?
3.If I have to re-register in India, does the 2-year waiting period for OCI start from the date of Malaysian Marriage or the date of re-registration in India? (its important as my wife wants to join me full-time in India only after OCI as otherwise she cannot work here and will be twiddling thumbs ).

1. It is legal and sufficient

2. No, no need to re-register. It is legit

3. No need. Date of marriage.

When in doubt, don't call, don't email - Just visit the Indian High Commission and seek a meeting with a consul officer.

Q: My spouse is a foreign national of non-Indian origin. I hold an OCI Card. Is my spouse entitled to an OCI Card? What about my children?
A:
Yes, the spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an Overseas Citizen of India cardholder registered under section 7A and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years immediately preceding the presentation of the application, can apply for an OCI card.
Minor children whose both parents are citizens of India or one of whose parents is a citizen of India are eligible to apply for an OCI Card.
