Hello there,
I'm an indian, living in uk now. My fiance is british and we would like to get married in india.
Just wanted to know what kind of visa she needs to come over to india( will tourist visa good enough?)
Is there any time requirements(2 weeks before the wedding) that she need to be in india before getting married.

And finally how we go about registering our marriage? Will she get a multiple entry visa after marriage?

thanks very much
Mike

Well I do know of a couple who married in India and Sweden and have only registered in Sweden. Make sure you have a proper marriage certificate from whoever marries you here though. This will help for PIO card or whatever should your wife require it later.

Strictly speaking, one should have only one wedding --- but how are the UK authorities to know what you did in India? I know at least one mixed couple who had a Hindu wedding in India and a Christian one in Europe.

My stock advice is to do the legal bit in which ever country you will live in. A C-of-E wedding is a legal wedding, and you will get a marriage certificate. I don't think you need to register the wedding in India as well. One certificate will do.

I just noticed... I am using the word "legal" loosely and inaccurately in the previous comment.

There is nothing illegal in the millions of temple marriages in India that were never registered.

Per haps I should have said formal? or official? As in --- the bit that gets you a government-backed certificate.

Good advice, the Indian registration requires 30 days advance notice also unless you have someone fix that locally. Not relevant in this case but some European nations on the continent are still enamored with Uncle Adolph and will not look kindly on an Indian registration..
