Hi Michael,

you have to make sure that you follow Indian law regarding the marriage procedure. Everything else could lead to problems when other countries should recognise the marriage. If you marry legally in India, it is no problem in other countries.

Do you have two different religions? How do you want to get married? Are you a Christian? Maybe a church would be an option as well.

Usually, you would marry under the Special Marriage Act. For that you need 30 days of notice before the actual marriage can take place. Your registrar can tell you if she also has to be present. Usually not.

If you marry in a church (I think that is possible, even if only one of you is a Christian) you need to register that marriage at the municipality or wherever the registrar is.
For either ways (religious marriage with registration or marriage conducted by the marriage registrar), you have to talk to the registrar, who is responsible for you in the place where you are living. It depends on the registrar which papers he wants. It is probably passports (for her with a valid visa, for example tourist visa), birth certificates, some sort of proof of the family status (this can be the toughest to get), etc. You will need lots of copies as well. Maybe some papers have to be attested or apostilled.

Also your marriage certificate might need to be apostilled or attested so that it is ready for the use in GB.

I heard that it is pretty tough to get a visa for GB. You should find out with the immigration. Maybe they provide information on their homepage as well.

If your fiancée is using facebook, there is a nice group for spouses and girlfriend of Indians. I can add her. Please send me her facebook details in a private message, if she is interested. There are also some women from GB.)

Good luck
Anjali
