Hello guys,
It might be a silly question but I couldn't find enough info to convince me it's not worth asking
Does anybody know, if the civil marriage is happening in Pondicherry is there any difference regarding time and documents involved?
I am Italian and my boyfriend is Indian.
I'm travelling there soon and I was wondering what are the chances to make it happen
Thanks!
Elisa

Ask your Indian spouse-to-be Seriously, he should be making a trip to the Sub-Registrar's office and getting a list of documents required. And, also give 30 day notice. To start with here is the email for the District Registrar regn.pon@nic.in located at Kamaraj Salai, Saram,
Puducherry 605013.

Hi nycank,
Thank you for your answer.
I know I should make him work since he's there already
So do you think the 30 days notice is required anyway? I read about a shorten time (like 11 days) but I might get confused with the registration of marriage.
Thanks again!

What you and I know about Indian marriage Nycank has already forgotten.

From all the other marriage inquiries 30 seems to be the number.

Elisa, I guess you are talking about The Special Marriage Act? That that is a central-government act, and is the same all over India, except that some states have their own ideas and different ways of doing things. nycank is indeed a repository of fascinating facts! Better than google, which you can also try!

If you are planning to have a civil, registry-office, court, or non-religious marriage by any other name, then you should have thoroughly read The Special Marriage act. If you have not done yet, google it out and do so. It is written in plain language (you don't need a lawyer to understand it! ) and it tells you just about everything you need to know.

Please note that there is not just one place where 30 days matters: there are two. You need to give 30 days notice, which is posted at the registrar's office, of your intention to marry. What registrar, where? The one in whose district one of you has lived for at least 30 days.

I speak from experience, but it was 12 years ago, so I am a little rusty. Yep... marriage does that to you: rust!

Remember, I said, ask your spice/spouse to go and get the information from the Sub-Registrar.

The Marriage Registration for Renoncant Indians (Person who has obtained family name during the French Regime), if they so choose will have to publish a BAN? and 11 days later, proceed for a civil (read SMA) marriage.

But, only he, and he alone can verify this from the registrar, along with the documentation required for both of you.

Not all indians living in the UT of Pudducherry qualify; thus, a 30 day notice.

Good grief, this is a new high! You excel yourself!

Elisa, if there is anybody around here who is likely to know the devilish details of different regions, it's nycank. Me? I just do common or garden Special-Marriage-Act marriages.

No. No. Remember them Indians who applied for French citizenship living in Pudducherry (they had a few threads on that) got me into reading some of the personal laws of former territories, some of which still linger
