For marriage in India apparently its a good idea to have this certificate but I'm very confused about how to go about getting it. :/

I'm in Scotland,UK.

Considering my age (18) what are the chances of the marriage officer asking me for this certificate?
Also where would I go to obtain this?

The only thing I know about it is that it costs about 65.

Hi Laila,

Didn't need one myself, marriage officer not particularly concerned and decided my word was enough. The British Embassy no longer issue a document.

Hope this helps!

Where are you planning to get married and settle?

Hi EasinEcho,

Me and my gf are getting married in Delhi, and I am also worried about this "NO-Objection certficate" or "Certificate of NO-Impediment". Are you 100% sure, its not needed? On sites its mentioned the court needs it.

Please consult the relevant marriage act for required documents. If anything gets waived, that is down to the registrar: you cannot rely on it. In my case, too, the registrar said, "You tell me you're not married: that's good enough for me".

One person wrote to the Brit embassy for such and the officer wrote back that they don't issue such anymore. The poster used that letter to accomplish the needful.!

The relevant verbiage as it pertains to India, a Commonwealth country.

Marrying in a Commonwealth country: you cannot obtain a Certificate of No Impediment for a marriage in a Commonwealth country. You will need to speak to the authorities conducting your marriage ceremony to make them aware that you cannot obtain this and ask them what sort of alternative (if any) should be provided instead.
