You went to Imphal for a holiday?? Why did you chose a city? I'm coming to the end of a 2 month trip around the seven sisters and imphal was my worst place. It's filthy and ugly and just like the plains, it's not a fair impression of the manipur I saw. Riding around the villages in the hills of the south was the highlight for me but I found out it was a dangerous and restricted area.

When you come to nagaland avoid dimapur at all costs it's even more vile here! Kohima is clean er and doesn't all smell of urine but again is populated with lots of plains people. The villages are the interesting bits and it seems getting as far north or east will be best but I didn't have time. The 2 main roads don't seem to be connected which makes it hard!

Sanjay , good to know about your passion. A few pics of your trip would add much more flavour with the information you have contributed to this forum. Thanks.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time, i didnt visit the temple you speak of. Yes i hear their interpretation of Hinduism is quite different. Their clothing is certainly different and i saw some elderly women smoking these huge curved pipes in public which looked cool.

There's an enormous amount of military in Imphal isnt there? There were soldiers stationed all over the highways and lots of armoured vehicles with gun turrets when i was there.

This was not the same on the smaller roads though - i ran into a Zomi christian revolutionary army roadblock at Songtal on the Guita road. (it was ok they let me through although the Indian army held me for a day to question me about my involvement with them).

An interesting place indeed, ripe for a proper adventure!

Yes IN Manipur there is very different form of hinduismthey called vaisnav.their classical dance is manipuri which is very rich to represent the Radha and krishna lella. all over india it is also recognised this is one type of classical dance that id called Manipuri dance.they wear very traditional cloth, you cannnot see these cloth in different state. anyway in india eveyr state are very rich their coulture their own language, own food, own tradional cloth.etc.they use the chandan in the forhead during any festival.the women used the long Pipe is called Hookait is one kind of smoking. Manipur is female dominate state thatwhy there you find a market which is run by only women
Yes manipur is very disturb state , their people want to geta separate country for that always you can see many amry people be there with gun so that they control the situation.
For me also very challenging to go there and spent holiday since they do not like the middle indian face people .anyway i love my country and love all state thatswhy i travell a lot. in July i am going to Bhutan and in december i will go Nagaland.
