Now, weekend tourists need not arrange for transportation to reach popular destinations such as Malshej Ghat and Bhandardara. For the first time, MTDC has tied up with private hotels and transporters for monsoon packages that include four round-trip options—Mumbai-Lonavala-Mumbai, Mumbai-Bhandardara-Mumbai, Mumbai-Nashik-Shirdi-Bhandardara-Mumbai and a day tour of Mumbai-Malshej-Mumbai. The packages include overnight stay, breakfast and dinner.

"We want Mumbaikars to leave their cars at home and choose from a range of accommodation—rooms in three- to four-star hotels with state or private resorts. So, the next time you visit your favourite monsoon destination with family and friends, do not bother to drive for hours or arrange for an SUV and a driver," said a tourism department official.

"MTDC will arrange for a pickup and drop from places such as Thane and Dadar to monsoon destinations such as Lonavala, Bhandardara, Malshej, Nashik and Shirdi between August 1 and September 30. Special packages have been designed for the purpose that include stay, breakfast and dinner," he added. Bookings have already begun.
