Ranpar beach is a black sand beach, and not a very good one- atleast thats what I was told by our local driver. The ones immediately to its north and south are brilliant though.

Pretty difficult to answer that.

What is your expectation?

Devbag near Tarkarli (Malvan), Bhogwe Beach across the creek, Guhagar Beach, Dive Agar Beach are some options.

Thank you! Al of them look nice.
I'm tired of Goa so is hoping to find a new place to hang out at.

What I would like is some simple beach huts and perhaps a restaurant.
Any ideas?

You can consider Velneshwar - has a MTDC resort, quite reasonably priced, on a cliff - beach is closeby. Quiet place. And you can visit places nearby.
Sar Pass Trek , Rohtang, Munnar, Badrinath Kedarnath, Vaishnodevi, Goa, VOF, Kedarkantha, Kuari Pass, Brahmatal Trek

I have one more question.
How is the alcohol situation in Maharashtra?
Can you buy it in restaurants and in the shops?

It is a good beach. However if you want some solitude go to Devbag (mentioned in the earlier post).

You can buy alcohol in restaurants and shops. Stick to beer and IMFLs (Indian-made foreign liquor).

A lot many people from mumbai and pune think the same.
Especially on weekends

I have visited murud and dive agar on weekdays and found them to be reasonably quiet and peaceful. In dive agar don't stay in the places near the entrance. walk along the beach, you will see some quiet laid back places with room. Liquor shop is 500 mts away.

Diveagar village has had a ban on liquor consumption for some time now - or has it been lifted? I remember one having to go to the neighbouring village to get any alcohol.
