Pondicherry accomodation

I stayed in Pondicherry / Auroville about ten years ago and found the Ashram guest houses were perfect for me. The one I stayed in was 100 rupees a night. Now they are charging from 1500 to 3000, well out of my budget. has any one been there recently who can suggest some budget accommodation, about 500 rupees would be great

Most ashram guest houses north of Goubert Avenue do not accept foreigners any more due to the necessity to register them with the police within 24 hours. Those were the inexpensive ones, besides New Guest House in White Town. A good one of the few that still do accept foreigners, is Ayodhya GH, but it is situated in a less desirable neighbourhood, and you need a motorbike to safely get you there. It is within your budget-range.

In Auroville you find many places for that kind of money. They are suitable for young people with less needs for comforts and with an adventurous spirit.

Thanks for that Atala. I will check out Auroville. I am 62 so not young, but still have the adventurous spirit. Just looking to unplug from the Matrix for a couple of months, i.e. not TV or internet, and a quiet nights sleep.
