dialects in hindi

maybe anyone can tell me a little about it. How distinct are dialects or spoken hindi from standard hindi? can you tell to whom you are speaking from which state or region he or she comes from?
who speaks "nice" hindi where are dialects common only a native understands?

no project . but whereas i do understand some of tv my mind literally collapses when trying to understand the non english speaking parts of my family. where mujhe becomes mo and so on....
i appreciate short or long answers. it's not scientific at all.

So do help us with a bit of your present geography and if possible history (ancestors, where the hindi might have originated from) - we could help you with probably more specific guides or answers than generic ones.
For example - staying in MP, but have come from Gujarat, Kutch side - so it makes it a bit easier for us to understand what atrocities the other family members are upto!

from the haryana UP border area near delhi. the family has been ever living there, first in a village nowadays in the city. as far as i have been told it resembles more the dialect of UP. otherwise i know someone who is from agra and says its very difficult to understand.

So this must be Bangaru. it isn't considered "nice", i.e. this isn't how news readers on Prasar Bharati are supposed to speak. But when men speak like this they sound like Dara Singh in films and this makes members of the "fair" sex swoon.
