hi

Can anyone guide me about Protected Area permit and inner line permit for ladak? Are they same and issued by same authority? Came across the govt website http://www.lahdclehpermit.in, which talks of only protected area permit. Are they available online?

Kindly update and Thanks in advance.

You don't need to get your permit online. You don't need a permit for Leh, Central Ladakh, or any part of the roads from Manali or Srinagar to Leh. Once you are in Leh you can get the necessary permit.

One of the reasons they reintroduced the permit requirement for Indian citizens was that when they lifted it, some tourists would fly in and somehow convince or trick a taxi driver into taking them up Khardong-La or Chang-La pass the same day. So of course, there were deaths. So they reintroduced the permit requirement, which forces you to take a day between arrival in Leh and continuing even higher up to a pass. It brought the death rate of tourists down considerably.

PAPs are for foreigners, ILPs are for Indians.

It will get worse again : leh.nic.in now links to the updated permits site , promising permits " just a click away " .

Online ILP spots

The online ILP link and format does not have Chushul-Hanle route from Pangong Tso.

So I guess, if we have plan to go Hanle via Chushul and Tsaga La from Pangong Tso directly, then that needs to be obtained from DC office only at Leh in person, not online.
