You could consider International Youth Hostel at Leh.

The Ledeg Hostel seemed lovely when I visited - but it is not too close to the market. But it seemed much quieter and more pleasant!

Stay out of the exact centre. Noise and dust. Main Tukcha Road has pleasant options but may not be within budget, it's discount time however......

Hi, You will find a lot of budget accommodation in Chanspa Road which also has a decent market and some very good eateries and bakeries. I can recommend one - Palu Guest House which will fit in your budget. Keep travelling..

Do you mean, "You could consider founding an International Youth Hostel at Leh"? Or do you believe there already is one? I haven't heard of it, but stranger things have happened.

A Barista opened in Leh in July, the first chain I have heard of here.

Edited to add: Okay, sorry, I searched and the first few hits took me to bookings for random hotels, but then one website gave a picture of a small Ladakhi guesthouse with a vinyl printed banner on it that says "International Youth Hostel" and indeed it is listed on the Youth Hostels Assoc of India website.

I stayed at Oriental. Forgot how much the lower-end rooms are. Possibly 600 to 800 INR? Good hotel.

Also, I agree that you do not want to be in the center of Leh. While it is certainly now crowded like Bangalore, when I was walking around the center of the city, I was glad I stayed in the tourist section. Easy enough walk to the center of town.
