Any suggestion which transportation (hptdc bus or jeep) is better choice to go from manali to leh?
How much to hire a jeep from manali to leh and does it needs overnight stay at keylong and how long for the jeep journey takes?

Between, i've booked the hptdc night bus ticket from delhi - manali which will be arriving at manali in the morning (maybe 10am) and do you think if it's risky to catch the bus at 11am from manali - leh on the same day itself?
Thanks ..

bus are not that much risky--its start from manali at 11 am and reach keylong around 7 pm and then night halt at chandrbhaga hotel and next morning at 5 am they start for leh...
stay in tents at keylong is part of fare of the bus.
if you are alone bus is ok.
ang if you dont have budgetr issue you can get cab it will take around 15000rs for drop to leh with one night stay.
or you may get shared taxi also contact at taxi stand.
manali bus stand number is--01902252323

thanks VaishaliS and vikramkyy for the tips info!

We actually plan to take hptdc bus but it's not running from manali to leh everyday, so the timing seem tight and rushed for us to catch the bus (manali-leh) at 11am on the same day we arrive at manali in the morning and what happen if there is a delay incident to the bus from delhi - manali, do you know how much roughly for the jeep journey from manali - leh for 5 persons?
Besides, is there any other bus company running from manali to leh except for the government hptdc bus?
Is the cab fare rs15000 per person or the whole cab?
Thanks again ..

@quiet23 no there is only govt bus service for manali to leh.
jeep journey will take approx 16hrs to reach leh..but you need one night halt.
and 15000/rs for whole cab .for 2 days means one night stay. if you need 2 night stay then 17500rs.. rates can be change.

Your options for Manali-Leh :

* HRTC state buses run daily , start around six in the morning, and stop overnight in Keylong. Old buses with short wheelbase , excellent drivers. Rs 109 Manali-Keylong , around Rs 500 Keylong-Leh.

* HPTDC tourist buses , Rs 1500 - now transport only , used to include tent bed & breakfast in Keylong.

* private jeeps ( 4WD´s ) and minibuses start around four in the morning - one of the reasons being trying , not always making it to Darcha before they close the road for the night. Rs 1500 per seat on the nonstop cannonball run - think twenty hours plus , or with a stopover at The Vomit Hilton , aka Sarchu. You have some potential for serious altitude sickness here - the best option is a first night around 3000 meters , usually Keylong.

Driving times : over the last three years the first fifty klicks up to thr Rohtang La has more or less normally meant five hours or more , whenever there has been any rain recently and/or it is high season. Leaving the massive stream of daytrippers up to the pass behind you makes it a lot easier - but eight hours to Keylong definitely won´t happen anytime soon ( more rain in the coming five days) , and is a bit optimistic in any high season .

My personal preference is the HRTC buses - basically you get to choose between old rickety vehicles with a driver in good shape , or the opposite with jeeps/minibuses. The buses also gives the option to drop off at a whim along the way & catch a later bus , which I´ve done a number of times.
