Dear members,

My husband & i are traveling in ladakh from 4th September onwards.

We need to be back in delhi by 15th sept morn or afternoon.
We have planned our itinerary in such a way that we finish all d site seeing by 12th september. We are planning to leave from leh on 13th morning & reach manali on 14th morning / afternoon or reach delhi on 15th morning / afternoon

What are the available options for this travel?? are there any bus services from leh to manali or even to delhi??

I have gone through the ladakh taxi chart rate & they charge INR 15,000 for a trip from leh to manali. This does not suit our travel budget.

Any help would be much appriciated.

Regards,
Archana

Did you check HPTDC buses from Leh to Manali? Once you are in Manali you can get HRTC or HPTDC buses to Delhi.

Hi aarosh, thanks for your reply..

I have inquired about the bus from manali to delhi.

What i am not able to understand is weather there is any bus that leaves from leh & drops at manali???

If this works out, then i will go ahead & book bus from manali to delhi.

Let me know if you have any info about the leh to manali bus.

Regards,
Archana

Well Archana, you can book the connecting busses between Delhi - Manali + Manali - Leh and Leh - Manali and Manali - Delhi from HPTDC.

The Leh - Manali and Manali - Leh bus service runs at alternate days with Odd dates being Manali - Leh and Even dates being Leh - Manali. I guess it is similar this year as well.

The HPTDC bus service will charge Rs 2000 for the one side fare in which I guess two meals along with accommodation at Hotel Chandrabhaga, Keylong is included.

Hi Aarosh & Dheeraj..

I spoke to HPTDC office at Manali over telephone..

The person on the phone said that the bus service from manali to leh & back will be availabe only till 1st week of september... The dates i am looking at 13th september from leh & reaching manali on 14th september.. So i dont think it will suit me... But I am going to give it another try through their online booking & check if the dates are available in their booking website...

If this does not work out..are there any private bus operaters from leh to manali?? How can i get theie contact details??

Let me know if you have any inputs for the same..

Regards,
Archana

HRTC also runs the bus service from Keylong - Leh and you can find their buses for Manali - Keylong as well as many other modes like shared taxi etc from Manali. You can book the connecting buses from Manali bus stand. I guess they might be operational by that time as lots of local use them, not sure though. But, do not expect them to be as comfortable as HPTDC ones. The charges are between about 500-600 for Keylong - Leh and 100 odd for Manali - Keylong.

There are tempo travelers and some semi-delux buses which are also run by private tour operators in Manali. You can check with local tour operators in Manali to book yourself the tickets, I guess. But again these tickets must be booked in advance AFAIK.

If possible, you can also get hold of some HP numbered taxi in Leh taxi stand who will charge only about 5K types as they are not allowed to pick tourists from Leh.

This is not a problem that needs to be solved in advance. Walk down Changspa lane in Leh and youll see lots of flyers for shared 4WDs and minibuses to Manali , both around Rs 1500. Most will be for the cannonball run , without a night halt in Keylong , unless the road conditions have been so bad this season that theyve decided to give up on that. HRTC buses ( my preference ) run daily. As mentioned above , its around Rs 500 to Keylong , and another 130 to Manali.

Even in mid-September there are no guarantees that the road wont go out : one buffer day is an absolute minimum.
