Hi all,

I and a friend are planning to be in Ladakh in early September. We will be traveling from Delhi by Himachal transportation bus (Delhi-Manali and Manali to Leh via Keylong). We are planning to spend 2 days in Manali, and so in effect we have around 10 days in Ladakh (Sep 11-20).

In terms of where we want to go in Ladakh, we KNOW that Tsomori HAS to be part of our trip, plus a couple of days in Leh. So two questions for all the travelers and the to-be travelers to Ladakh:
1. Now that these two locations have been decided, I cannot figure out whether it makes more sense to go to Zanskar or to the Nubra valley. Personally the idea of Nubra valley sounds attractive but I dont know if we can fit it into our itinerary

2. As I understand, to get to Tsomori, one needs a permit and needs to be at least a group of 4. We are two women traveling, and will be oh-so very thankful if we can somehow get two other people to be part of this group! We dont have to travel together (of course if we agree that we gel well traveling together would be great too) but we need to get the permits as a group.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks much

Zanskar would take atleast 5 days and more the number of days better would be the visit. Tsomoriri from Leh would take atleast 2 days. Nubra would take 2 to 3 days for a good visit. Now you plan accordingly.

Logically you should keep Nubra (2/3 days), Around Leh (2/3days), Tsomoriri (2/3 days) and if you want you can squeeze Pangong too. But Zanskar atleast till Suru Valley would be awesome in September with its red and brown grasses.

Tsomoriri needs permit but for Indians atleast there is no restriction with number of people in group. Are you not an Indian passport holder? In such case may be some other IMer could help you in this regard.

Thank you kshil - that helps. We have Indian passports so we should be fine . Do we need to carry our passports with us or would other ids (voter cards/pancards) suffice?

thanks!

Any Official Photo Id like Passport, Voter Id, PAN Card , Driving license should do.

Dheeraj has made a wonderful article in his blog here with details of the process and even a sample permit and a blank one to download and fill up even before reaching Leh. You should read the article and things would be crystal clear.

Wish you a safe and nice trip!!

Hello,

I would also be in Ladakh from 12th-20th Sep and it would be great if we could share cabs and travel as a group so that the travel costs can be shared..let me know if that is OK with you

Regards..

Me and my wife will be traveling Leh from 12 to 20 Sep - but via air, please share the itinerary so if possible we may tag along in Leh for far off places (Nubra and Pangong TSO).

Hello yayyaati,

Am also travelling to and from Leh by air. basic plan is to stay in Leh for atleast a day or two..explore markets, local monasteries and have permits mad and enjoy Leh festival. then can travel overnight to Pangong and Nubra and also indulge in White water rafting if possible..Let me know if you have a chat id or e-mail address. Can talk at length there.. Have frnds who have just gone to Leh..after they come can get a better idea of places to stay etc

Regards..
