Transport from Batal to Manali

Hello all,

I plan to go to Chandratal this week(15-18th, Aug). Here's a rough itinerary.

14th evening - Leave Delhi
15th morning - Reach Manali by 8 am. Take cab/bus. Reach Kunzum and reach Chandratal by trek by evening.
16th and 17th - Chill :)
18th early morning - Leave by 7 am. Reach Batal by 11. Take a bus/cab from Batal and *somehow* catch the 5 pm bus back to Delhi.

Now I am very confused about the journey back from Chandratal to Manali. I will try to break it down into questions:

1) I hear only one bus plys between Manali to Kunzum La. That too at 5 am. Are there more buses, say around, 10 am?
2) Even if we take cab to Kunzum La, how will we come back? The cab person won't wait for 3 nights for us at Batal/Kunzum.
3) Is the plan for 18th too rushed? Can a person reach Manali by 5 pm if he starts from Chandratal?
4) Can we hire bikes in Manali? That would solve a lot of problems. Any reliable contact that you guys can please suggest?

Thanks a lot for stopping by. Waiting for your replies...

Why not share the information instead of waiting for someone to ask for it?

- I think the plan is a too tight. It took me about 8 hours to reach Batal from Manali, in my own bike. Bus would be definitely slower. So you would be reaching Batal late on Saturday and leaving early on Sunday. Have at least a day more.

- Not much info about public transport or its timings. There was definitely one bus that leaves early from Manali to Kunsum La via Batal.

- Plenty of staying option to stay at Chandratal. I could count at least 30 tents. There is a roadside dhaba at Batal which has more staying options. Run by a lovely old couple. Please stop at least for tea. You can make a phone call too from here.

- I went in mid-August. It was perfect weather. But a friend of mine just returned last week from Manali after hearing that roads after Rohtang are closed to Batal. Please enquire before going.

Roads are open now towards Rohtang

@walk_about

Roads are open now. Yes you are right there is some option for food and stay. but It depend on your luck whether you will get that or not because many tourist are going there so they might book that already. Also I would not prefer bus at all because its the only bus and also there you won't get space at all. Its better to hire your own vehicle.

Also the above plan I shared with my own car not by bus. If you guys interested in travel you can add me because I also like to travel. Hope we can make trip together.
I have been already in shrikhand/Kinnerkailash/chanderkhani etc...

Caution !!!
Kaza - losar -- Kunzum pass- Baatal - Chatru if anyone suggests you that you could cross this stretch in any small vehicle ( low ground clearance cars ) then that person must either be plain ignorant or trying to settle some old score. Don't attempt to cover this stretch, especially that 35 odd kms between Batal and Chatru.
that stretch must be taken off road map completely.
