Friends,
As a part of our (4 adults+1 child) journey, we have to travel from Manali to amritsar. We have to reach Amritsar on 1st February morning.
for this please give me some travel options.
When to start and how to travel etc.
If bus, then how?
If cab, then how much cost? And is it safe to travel in night in cabs?

Thank you
from the God's own Country

There are quite a few options.

Take a direct HRTC bus from Manali to Amritsar
Take a bus to Pathankot and train to Amritsar
Take a bus to Chandigarh and train to Amritsar

There is a Himachal State bus from Manali to Amritsar at 01:49 PM. It reaches Amritsar early in the morning. You may book bus ticket online at:

Thank you.
But the direct bus is an ordinary one. May be difficult for such a long journey with a kid.
if we took a bus to ambala pr chandigarh, which will be better?. From there we can hire a car, right?
Or direct cab how much it will cost?

As aarosh has suggested, you may take direct bus to Chandigarh, and then take train to Amritsar.

There are two trains on 31st January and both has vacant seats. It will take around four and a half hour.

You may take private buses from Chandigarh to Amritsar which runs every half an hour and takes around 6 hours. These buses are in good condition.

No need to go to Pathankot. The Mandi Pathhankot road takes forever to reach Kangra. Take a Volvo to Chandigarh from Manali. Then from Chanfigarh there are numerous options. The 1 I like is Mercedes. Runs from Sector 43 ISBT

Not sure about the cost. I hope you are aware that you would have to pay for the return also. If you are lucky you might a cabbie who has dropped a fare to Manali from Amritsar.

Unorganized taxis are mostly unsafe. Although never heard anything bad about outbound Manali drivers but you never know. Secondly post Raghunath Idol threat in Kullu, it is High Alert throughout the state. So book a cab if only you happen to know the guy or trust the service provider.

I will still recommend HRTC Volvo. Best in the business.
