i have a doubt

I have a doubt regarding whether the sivalik express wait for the kalka mail, in case the kalka mail is late to arrive at kalka station. SIvalik express leaves at 5.30A.M. while kalka mail reaches at 4.30A.M. so does sivalik express wait for the kalka mail to arrive, or does it leave irrespective of the arrival time of kalka mail. An urgent reply would be most graciously welcomed!!

In the normal course of events this is a guaranteed connection. If the Kala Mail is severely delayed the Shivalik Deluxe will not wait but an additional train is provided as a connection.

In February this year we travelled on the Kalka Mail which was 7 hours late in arriving,. There was a connecting train to Shimla waiting but we had to pass on that as we needed to travel on to McLeodganj so took a taxi instead.

Thumbs down

The shivalik train is an official connection train for Howrah-Kalka mail. However, Since Howrah Kalka mail is almost never on time (4 - 10 hours late) if you are hoping to catch the Shivalik by boarding the Howrah Kalka Mail, then you are risking your money.

I had booked Shivalik on 21-Jan-2018 but our Kalka mail was 8 hours late so we missed the Shivalik express. There was no ticket refund, nor any extra coaches were provided. Lots of people who made tickets for shivalik lost their money. We came to know from others that our seats were sold in black by the TTE to the passengers of Delhi Kalka trains and others while we had no other choice but to travel with general ticket on the 12:10 train.

My suggestion is not to book the shivalik from kalka to shimla, because you will probably miss it. You can either take a taxi from Chindigarh which costs around 1500 and 4 people can easily go on it. Or you can book later trains (departing at 10,11 or 12) depending how late your kalka mail is.

there is 75% chance that you will miss shivalik. The official connection is just a joke and TTEs are more interested in selling our tickets in black to delhi-kalka express passengers.

Don't have any idea about tickets get sold in black but the time choose to avail such connecting journey wasn't wise at all. Fog creates huge disruption of all traffic movements in the this part of the country during this period every year. Almost no trains runs on time and cancellation is very common. Howrah-Kalka-Shivalik connection is a journey to cherish and could be done during rest of year, atleast I have done it twice without problems. Shivalik waits for Howrah-Kalka for even 2/3 hours, I heard.
