Fellow IMers, I couldn't find much information on this topic so starting a new thread. Please point me to an existing thread if I missed it.

I am going to Kullu, with my wife and my four-year old son, during 5-8 March. I have a few specific questions below. I shall be staying at HPTDC Sarvari, near the Kullu ISBT.
  1. How is availability of auto-rickshaw or similar local transport late in the evening or early in the morning?
  2. Where from and what public transport to use to reach Kasol and Manikaran from Kullu, say around 0900 hours? What is the guaranteed time in the evening to find public transport for a return from these places to Kullu?
  3. How to reach Naggar by public transport from Kullu bus stand?
  4. Any recommendations for a nice riverside restaurants in Naggar to lunch at? I don't mind walking 1-2 km each way.
  5. Are there any (children's) park by the Beas riverside that is in the Kullu city itself, preferably 2-4 km from HPTDC?
  6. How to reach Arjun Gufa (caves) in Naggar?

~Ashish

PS: Any other suggestion are welcome considering, I'm not keen on temples. I'd like to do (at least!) window shopping at Akhara Bazaar/Market and I'm keen on orchards

I reached Delhi from Kullu today morning. I am answering my own queries, in case it helps future travelers
  1. These are available from ISBT Sarvari in Kullu. From HPTDC Hotel Sarvari, the nearest taxi stand and auto stand are at the Dhalpur bus stand (~1 km walking downhill distance from the hotel entrance). During day time one can hire a taxi from the Kullu Taxi union office at Dhalpur, on the main road. However, the office closes at 1900 hours and one can book taxis for any time of the day in advance before the office closes. Auto-rickshaws are available for extended hours (2200 hours is late and beyond extended hours by hills' standards) from the Dhalpur bus stand. Some can be found all round the clock from ISBT Sarvari Kullu.
    • Auto-rickshaw contact number: 09218032606 (don't remember the name) and 07831080981 (nickname Filmy!)
    • Hotel Sarvari contact number: 01902222471
    • Kullu taxi union reception contact number: [Shall share in a day!]
    • Taxi (Alto car) contact number: 09857543228 (Manish) Taxi cannot go on the pre-defined tours of the taxi union by himself. One shouldn't even mention the name when calling the taxi union reception. They have a queue of the taxi drivers and are dispatched in the order of their attendance when a tourist demands a taxi.
  2. Buses ply regularly (low frequency during the off season in March 2015; do not know the frequency during the tourist season in summer months) from ISBT Sarvari Kullu and not-so-frequently from the Dhalpur bus stand for Bhuntar, Manikaran, Kasol, Manali, and Naggar. From the looks of the road, the last transport back to Kullu from Manikaran should be an hour or more before dusk.
  3. There are ample buses to Naggar from ISBT Sarvari Kullu. The board behind the windshield that indicates the destination will have 'Naggar Tapu' or 'Kullu to Manali via Tapu' written on them in Hindi.
  4. On the road to Naggar there are many small villages with decent population and facilities. Every kilometer has a hotel. Just a handful of these hotels before Naggar have the riverview. As far as I can tell, none has access to the river. Come to think of it, it shouldn't even be allowed, considering the hazard to environment from the hotel's runoff water, waste disposal, and possible fishing.
  5. Nature Park on the main highway is fantastic. And it is just coming up! I am told that the construction will take a few months and already it offers everything I wanted. A small snacks shop, cleanliness, adjacent to the Beas river, some swings and slides, sprawling lawns, shade from rains, and labelling on the trees to know their correct names. Yes, the last item is a must have when you have a inquisitive four-year old in tow
  6. For me, Arjun Gufa (caves) will have to wait for the next trip

What are you talking about Cap?! Any community is for and by the members. No one owes me anything and vice versa. There are countless who I haven't helped before their trip. You shouldn't feel bad (or sorry) for anything.

Having said that, wouldn't it be awesome if each member wrote just 10 sentences for each travel they have done! Dreamer, I am:

Oops! I completely missed this query. My bad. Just sharing for those who come looking for this information.

I don't know if the following rates are still applicable, but the following are the rates I paid in March 2015. I don't know if Manali taxi union is different and whether they have a different rate card. Please check at the contact number mentioned in the photograph.
