The advantage is that you don't have that much demand of railway/flight tickets when booking from anywhere outside of kolkata on puja times

I am thinking about visiting kolkatta during pooja.I worked out the initial logisitics - thanks to above link.My tentative itinerary looks as follows

7 OCT - leave bangalore by train
8 OCT - reach kolkatta
9 OCT - city tour
10 OCT - Bonedi Barir ( Zamindars / Ancient House ) Puja or something similar
11 OCT - more city visit ?? - see Grand Immersion Trip Of Durga Idol By Vessel
12 OCT -leave Kolkatta

I will do another post with questions.Nice thread btw.I never had the idea to visit Kolkatta during puja until i saw the above link , though a visit to kolkatta has been long pending.Pity that flights cost a lot now.

Yes, right rshalder...

In fact I booked my first ticket SBC to NZM exactly on the 1st day 8:00 am once the booking opens and got my preferred seats. I was first one to book for that train :-)

From Kolkata it goes to "REGRET" within minutes, specially in popular trains like Howrah-Delhi Rajdhani Exp

That's right - especially when you need to fill the captcha and then need to use OTP before final payment in IRCTC... which makes a bit of delay.

Dont rely on Tatkal...in puja time...there is great rush for IRCTC tatkal ticket...most of the time server goes down....no tricks works that time. Even travel agents can't give you guarantee that they will provide you ticket for sure..better to check IRCTC frequently for Special trains...another option is to avail premium tatkal ticket..the window of premium tatkal opens when tatkal booking starts.

Dhruba

Situation is very tight for all the routes. No tickets are available. All are hanging in waitlist.
