Is the schedule okay ? I will travel from NJP as I did not get reservations of any other trains.
I am going to Malangi on 6th may 2014. Can you please give information about the night safari at chilapata. From where to get the permission. I have gone to Dooars around 5 times never got opportunity to do night safari. Eager to do it. As per information night safari was not allowed till 2012. I read a travel report in IM by Ssoumya that he has done night safari at chilapata, any information about it ?
Can anyone give me any information about elephant safari at chilapata.
Please provide me the jeep safari cost at Jaldapara and Gorumara and elephant safari cost per head at jaldapara .
Last time in 2012 jayanti forest safari was closed but I had done the same in 2008, can anyone confirm me whether the Jayanti jaungle safari has started or not ?

Hi Anusri

our report is really very nice. We are going to visit Jayanti and Chilapata in ov. of this year. We have already booked Banante in Jayanti and Forest Bungalow in Chilapata. Do you have any idea about that forest bungalow in chilapata. And will you please inform me about rent of car there.

Cheers,
Santanil

Thanks SANTANIL. You can book Malangi Forest Bunglow at Barobari near Chilapata forest. We had booked the cars from Banante lodge itself. The transport cost will differ based on the safari.

Thank you Anusree for your response. Some are suggesting me to hire maruti van as we two are going. Is it wise? or we should hire a car like Sumo?

Yeah you can easily hire maruti van as road condition is good now..but for safari i would suggest Sumo because it will offer you better view of jungle from the car..

Dear Anusree / Other IM Members,

Thanks for your nice and informative trip report. I am also planning to visit Jayanti-Buxa and Chilapata during coming puja vacation with my family.....will you pls. advice me to make a suitable & economical plan? There will be 4 adults and 2 child aged 10 and 4 yrs in my group....My plan is as follows -

D1 - Reaching Hasimara Stn. by Kanchan Kanya Express and straight to Malangi Lodge @ Barodabri....after lunch avail jeep safari to chilapata forest if possible, if not then to visit Khairbari Leopard Rescue Centre and to explore the nearby areas. Night stay at Malangi Lodge.

D2 - Early morning to avail Elephant / Jeep safari....after B/F move towards phuntsoling (I don't know the exact spelling) and crocodile breeding centre there....after returning from there / having lunch on the way, moving towards Buxa. Visiting Jayanti by evening. Night stay at Buxa WBFDC lodge / any other suitable place.

D3 - After B/f visiting Buxa Fort, 23 & 27 Mile, Bhutanghat, Hatipota, Pokhri Lake, Raimatang etc........advice if any other places are there worthy to visit...pls. remember we will be unable to trek much with 2 kids.....NS @ Buxa....can all these places covered in a same day? If not, how can I manage the places...(pls. advice the sequence).

D4 - After B/F visit the uncovered places of last day....Afternoon to catch KK Express / Saraighat Express from Alipurduar / any other nearby stn.

Now, you suggest me whether this plan is ok or not? I need to know the following updated info from you as you have just visited this place very recently -

1) what is the cost of hiring a car -
for Hasimara to Malangi Lodge?
Malangi - Chilapata Forest Safari / Khairbari Trip?
Malang - Phuntsolling trip and then to Buxa?
Buxa sight-seeing covering the above mentioned places?
Shall we book a full car for the entire trip (Hasimara Stn. - Alipurduar Stn.) or take a cab as and when required? what will be economical and advisable? How do they charge for booking a car (Per km. or per day or lumpsum basis?) Do you know any reliable driver there? If yes, pls. provide their contact details.

2) Cost of the Jeep and Elephant Safari @ Chilapata / Malangi (Per head)? Is there any risk to have elephant safari with small kids aged 4 & 10 yrs.?? We never had any elephant safari before.

3) How can we cover all the (Max.) places and in what sequence? Do we need to take a separate guide if we take a dedicated Car service for the entire trip? What is the cost of guide?

4) Finally, what will be the estimated budges for the entire trip inclusive of all? A break up will help me to be prepared. Any other information we should keep in mind before going there? Pls. feel free to advice if any modification in plan is needed..

Waiting eagerly for your response...

Fantastic report with beautiful snaps.
A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.
