Continuation of Day 3 & end of our wonderful Journey

After seeing off the Rhinos, the elephant decided to cross the road & just turned 180 degree. A gypsy was also coming from the opposite side & stopped seeing the giant elephant. The elephant stopped & started to look at our gypsy. We got tensed as the guide also instructed the driver to get ready as we might need to back off any moment if the Tusker darts towards us. Don’t know what was in the tusker’s mind as he looked at us for next few seconds (though it seemed to be few minutes to us) & moved into the jungle.
We resumed our journey again.
After a while we saw a Wild Boar was roaming ahead & we were about to click the animal suddenly he saw us & ran away. After him almost 9 to 10 wild boars crossed our road within few seconds
Everything happened so fast that we didn’t have the chance to click any pic.
Then we reached Sisiniya watch tower from where we found a muster of Peacocks.
On the other side the Jaldapara forest could be seen.
We spend some time there & headed towards mendabari-bania beat.

The Mendabari beat is the densest part of the Chilapata forest. As we entrered we saw a small barking deer which jumped into the bush as soon as it felt our presence. We moved deep into this forest. The path was enchanting as if we were transported into another world. We saw a female Sambar crossing the road in a hurry and then the Male Sambar followed her. These beasts were huge and specially the sight of the male was fascinating. As we moved further we saw a couple of deer far away in our path quite unaware of our presence. We could manage some pics of this timid animal from our Gypsey. As we were coming out from the forest our guide asked us to stop the car and got down. The sight was not a pretty one.A civet cat has been killed. As per our guide it might have been a leopard. There were marks around the neck which looked like sharp claws tearing into it.
After another few minutes we came out of the forest.Thrilled we were to the fullest......We have been really lucky to spot these many wildlife.....!!

We returned to Jungle camp, freshened up,had breakfast and left for a short trip to Phuntshoeling. We visited the monastery and the view of Torsa river from there was quite exquisite. We had the desire to visit Bhutan once and reaching the entry point added fuel to our desire.Next year maybe we would try and visit the Royal Kingdom Of Bhutan. Fingers crossed. We had a short visit to a crocodile park after which we had some shopping and started on our way back.We stopped @Capitol Restaurant at Old Hashimara.

Though the look of this place is quite basic and like any other street side hotel the food was very very good indeed. The quality of fishes left us amazed.
We were done with our lunch,We had our train from Alipur duar @4.30 in the evening.Guess what we were late.So it was decided that we reach Hamiltongunj instead of Alipurduar and board the train from there. It was 5.10pm when Kanchankanya showed up in the distance and we picked up our luggages to board the train, the sun was setting in the far horizon.Memories of the sunsets we were privileged enough to witness past couple of days from Chunia tower and from Gorom Beat tower flashed in my mind.Refreshed I was that I could escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, deep in my heart I wanted to be here – Sitting in the Banante lodge, watching the sun go down behind the hills, darkness descending on the river bed into the forests, and then silence, peace and the true meaning of Life.

Review of Banante Lodge:

Banante Lodge in Jayanti inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve enjoys the best location one can get in Jayanti. The facilities are basic. There are two cottages and each cottage have two adjacent rooms. There are small gardens in front of the cottages and all sided open spaces where you have your tea, lunch, dinner while watching the Jayanti river bed along with the mountains of Bhutan ghat in front of you.The staff is friendly and very co-operative.The food deserves special mention.Sumptuous bengali food is served in Lunch and Dinner. The rooms are spacious and bathrooms are clean. The only improvement that can happen here is that the washrooms can improve.

Review of Chilapata Jungle camp :

This is a property of Help tourism and located outside Chilapata forest. The rooms are very good and spacious provided with all basic needs.Washrooms were clean. There are elephant and bamboo cottages. There is a small watch tower inside the resort compound. One will not experience the thrill of being in close proximity to the forest apart from late in the night if one climbs up the watch tower.A road runs straight in front of the resort and across the road there is a field at the end of which the forest starts. In Jungle camp food was excellent and in a way is a perfect place to unwind.

Really you were lucky enough to meet so many wildlife in Chilapata. Chilapata jungle has it's own wildness which is something different and we also encountered wild elephant there from very close and it was really a thrilling !!!

In Jayanti we also stayed in Banante but I think you were in ''renovated Bonante''

Hi Anushree...
You reminded me of my same type of trip in March 2010. Your photos are also like mines that i had taken that time. We did not stay at Banante Lodge, Jayanti, but had lunch there. Pure bangali and delicious dish ... I remember.

Truly it was an amazing experience in chilapata as we really didn't expect to see so much of wildlife there.

Yeah the rooms in Banante Lodge have been renovated with new colors. Also a bunch of stickers (stars, moon, planets) have been added to the ceiling of every room so that you can enjoy the night sky when the light is off.

At that time the caretaker there told us that, they do not have electricity.. I imagined...in the vastness of Jayanti River bed... the hilly range.. and such a silent zone... evening and night without electricity ... Great !!!
Did you have electricity there after almost 4 years?

We have not faced any issues with electricity in Jayanti tough the network issue was a bit challenging. If you have to make a call, you need to stay at a particular place inside the Office room of Banante lodge for 1-1.5 minute & the network will come..!!!!
