Jaipur could use an activist or two..here the norm for anything old, not protected by legislation governing heritage buildings, is to be torn down as soon as someone can foot the bill. Inspired by Arups photo, I walked around in my neighborhood, and to my dismay, found two out of forty odd houses that retain the original structure. It's more common for this to happen (advert below)

"66 years old Haveli situated near 5 Batti and Rajmandir Cinema Hall. Plot size is 864 Sq. Yards, 94 x 81 feet, 25 rooms, ideal for Heritage hotel. Located on 2 roads 50' and 30 feet"

Which "Wellington" is this? New Zealand, Nilgiris or elsewhere?

Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,

Actually, you do not need an activist unless you have a registry. Talking of which, half of the Banni Park (sp?) houses which have converted to B&B types are poor imitation of copies of khichidi-deco. Same is true of Cal a.k.a Kolkata.

The typology of a style does not make a building worth preserving. Many of the art deco constructions in Miami are not worth preserving. But, sometimes owner is rabid in having it in the registered, while other owners of similar typologies do not want anything to do with preservating essentially a poor copy.

The archetype of a genre in architecture is mostly centered around known architects.

True, on the point of khichdi deco. However, I was rather sad to see millborn house (first below) go - it was opposite rajmandir, to the left. Now, what stands in its place is the second photo below.

This trend symbolizes the essential difference between the north/west/metro south and the vast east of India. Here profit is eked first, and then what is left, may be enjoyed. In the east, largely the reverse is true.
