Hi every one,

I'm starting a round trip with my girlfriend from Kolkata to mumbai starting next week. We have quite a lot of places to go, and are spending three weeks for the whole travel.

I'm about to book our first train tickets that's going to take us from Kolkata to Varanasi (night train).

We will arrive next sunday morning (8:15) and are thinking in spending 2/3 days in Kolkata. Their are seats left for both Tuesday's or wednesday's 20:00 night trains.

Since I have to book literally now; will three days (including the Jet lag !) be enough?

The idea is as follows :

Sunday 5th: Kolkata --> Monday , Tuesday 7Th -- night train --> Wednesday 8TH : Varanasi --> Thursday, friday -- night train --> Saturday : Agra -- Evening train --> Jaipur --> following week Rajasthan.

I can afford an extra night in Kolkata if it's really worth it. Any good suggestions?

Hi Alex,

It depends on your pre planning about Kolkata.

Nothing in particular; a couple of must see sightseeing, but mainly wondering around the city. I think we'll try to stay in the city itself as much as possible.

It's our first time in India, it'll be the occasion to start getting the tempo.

Definitely three days.

On Sunday it will be about noon before you are settled in your hotel.
When you leave at Tuesday evening you have just one full day to explore the city.

This year we had after our arrival day two full days and found that too short.

You will need a complete day for the sightseeing. I would suggest you to book tickets in the West Bengal Tourism sightseeing trip. Safe and it covers all the important places of the city.

The other day you can choose your own way to roam around the city.

I agree about the tour organised by West Bengal tourism. Their office is in the Dalhousie Square area in the building called "Stephen House".

You may also try their online booking portal:

THX everyone.

I'm about to book a hotel. We'd like to keep it reasonable budget as its going to be the beginning of our trip.

Anyone heard of the 'Trimoorti' ? It's in Elgin road, what's the neighborhood like ?

It's 3200 Rs for two nights, reasonable?

Yeah. It is reasonable and the location is very good compared to Sudder Street. You can get access to Metro rail (tube rail) from here. The nearest station is Netaji Bhawan.
