12 hours in Kolkata

Hey, my train arrives into Howrah at about 4am and I leave again from the same station at 5pm. Any advice on what to do in between.

Is it possible to leave a bag at the station?

Would like do some exploring, take some photos, then maybe find someplace nice to sit for a few hours and watch it all unfold.

What are the must sees?

Cheers.

In that time, you can cover the central Kolkata area- Park Street, Victorail Memorial, Esplanade, Maidan, Nandan etc you will find couple of churches also in these areas. These places are also good for photography
Yes you can certainly keep your luggage at 'Howrah' station

Read this- And pick your choice.
Also, in case your train is saraighat express, it runs late, so you may have more time to spare. This has the necessary info about cloak room at Howrah, and places to go. Read the second post titled -Oh Calcutta!

Hi

As you r reaching early in the morning you can visit the morning flower market nr Howrah bridge which is Asia's biggest flower market and then try out the ghats on the banks of river Ganga as lots of activities happen during the morning hours. And if you r a photographer then i dont think you will like to miss them. From there go to victoria memorial spend some time, have ur brkfast or food @Flurys,and roam around some time in Park street and if you want go to Mother's House (Missionaries of Charity)take a cab, if u still have some time left you can visit New Market for some shopping :)

At Howrah station they have a locker room but they will keep the luggage s only if they are locked.

Enloy ur trip.

There is a cloak room at the Howrah Station but to be on the safe side, don't leave anything valuable like money, ornaments or such things in the luggage.

another point I think you may keep in mind while making a trip around Kolkata. The thing is your train in the evening may be late but you should arrive at the Station well in advance of its scheduled time. You may have to face traffic jam in the city.
