We went to Munnar in Jan 09 it was fatastic, we satyed in High Range club that was really great, no we are moving for an another tour to Kerala this summer can any body suggest me that if I got a chance between wanayand & Thekkady, where must I go?

If one has gone to both the places which one did the majority like ? I just want to ask as which place Wanayand or Thekkady meant for each one?

off course common sense has it that each place has its own sanity but neverthless favouritisim is human tendency, let me know please so that I plan to go either to Thakkady or wayanad, becasue I do not have time to visit both the places this time...pls help

Thekkady might just work out better for a shorter trip. Wayanad for a longer one.

But it depends on personal "favouritisim"s; you might as well toss a coin

Waynad has so many places to see and to do justice, you need atleast four to five days to see all the places in Waynad.

During summer, Waynad might be slightly cooler compared to Thekkady.

Ive been to the Wayanad region once, in 2004, and three times to Thekkady over the years, the last trip in May '08.

Both are lovely, very scenic, green and pleasant, even at the height of summer.

If you want a wildlife oriented holiday, Thekkady i.e. the Periyar Tiger Reserve [periyartigerreserve.org] offers several programmes which will interest any nature lover. If you stay within the sanctuary, you will enjoy an even better experience. I have had excellent wildlife sightings at Periyar, including lion tailed macaques and Nilgiri Marten, apart from the usual elephants, bisons etc.

There are also spice plantations in and around the Thekkady area, near Vandanmedu and Chellarkovil, also the drive to Munnar is green and scenic. You can also stay at the forest lodge at Gavi.

In Wayanad, we saw a lot of the Southern Birdwing and other huge butterflies but no wildlife [ matter of luck! ], however it is peaceful and beautiful in its own way.

Thekkady can be quite touristy, at least the boat rides, but they also offer bamboo rafting or nature walks/treks for smaller groups, and these are a much better way to experience the park. Maybe just bad luck, but I didn`t see too many animals there. Wayanad I liked better as it is more remote, less tourists around, the jeep safari was good, and they also offer half-day-hiking tours inside the park. All in all, I liked Wayanad better.

I think Wayanad should be a better bet in the summer. Wayanad is a trekkers paradise and definitely something unique. Thekkady is probably not going to offer the diversity wayanad offers.
