It seems that most of the hotels in Guruvayoor has check in at 03.00 PM and check out at 02.00 PM. It may be convenient for families coming by car / bus on the same day from South / north kerala or Coimbatore. But, if you are coming from Chennai / Bangalore by train and checking in these hotels at morning, you end up paying for 2 nights.

So, I recommend to stay in Trichur which has good hotels with 24 hours check in. You can save that money for some offering to the temple.

I find this very unfair.

Unfair-Really Unfair

I think it is not even legal to fix such an IN-OUT time in a hotel and a customer has a right to stay for 24 hrs. May be Star hotels can fix such a time- I am not sure even that is legal and many star hotels allow to stay for 24 hrs.I was not aware of this problem in Gvr.If the hotels are doing this we have to understand the legal side of this and complain to the concerned authorities.Any way I shall try to understand the correct position and post.

I assume that there would be many coming to Thrissur / Guruvayur by overnight trains. They reach Guruvayur around 07.00 AM. I believe that it should be 24 hours check in at Guruvayur. I realised this very recently, when I tried to book one of the most reputed hotel - a new one. They demanded to pay 2 nights charges for check in at 07.00 AM. Most of the devotees would leave next day morning after Darshan. According to this check in at 03.00 PM., they get this room vaccant for the day and the hotel collect 2 night rent.

I call it a plain robbery and exploiting the devotees.

This is a post I saw about Guruvayur Hotels while checking at another site reg.the check out time issue.May be the origin of this thread also is the same.I just wonder whether this issue can be solved by the help of any authority- means muncipal/devaswam authorities there.
By the way I have consulted an advocate friend of mine to look into the legal side of this issue as he told me that this may be against the right of a customer under consumer protection rules.Waiting to get his advice-he has gone to GVR for some fucnction

I had this problem in Varanasi, hoteliers trying to charge me for two nights when i was checking in after arriving by night train. Shocking in my opinion. Especially as many of these hotels were empty, I dont understand it. I wonder how many hotels would scare off people with these stupid rules.

Many hotels have this policy. Not just in India, Not just 5Star hotels. Checkin to Check out tends to be one-two hours difference. This is to clean the room for the next guest.

It is legal and governed by T&Cs.

I think they're talking about the weird check-in time, 3pm?
That sounds strange to me, most are 10am, 9am maybe.
Might suit someone arriving at 4 pm, but the trains don't run to that schedule.

Just sounds a bit mean really. You pay for one night, that, to me, means 24 hours for the room. Maybe, as you say NY, an hour to clean, but don't just change the check-out times to catch the customers.

Yeah, me too. Unfair, even if legal- and, as nycank points out, even if commonplace.

They advertise 'daily' rates, don't they? A day was 24 hours last I looked.

Hilton, London Marriott, Berlin, Crown Plaza, Amsterdam, Hyatt in Paris

Check in: 3:00 PM Check out: 12:00 noon. However, membership has its privileges. Early checkin and late checkout. Actually, Renaissance, AMS is very casual lets it elite guests checkin even at 630AM, while Sheraton attached to Schiphol slices/and dices its guest checkins close to its announced time.

Yup Yup - I totally agree.

Well, such is life. What if you arrive at 2200-200 hrs slot, as many US carriers do in BOM/DEL ? One is actually paying for a booking from the afternoon before. You do get whacked twice as the flights leave in that time slot too. So you pay from noon till when you check out at 2000-2400 hrs.

Yeah, same as Oz flights. All flights to dehli from OZ arrive at 0200 hours. Bloody nuisance, you're half dead from a 17 hour flight, with two stopovers, and then you have to find a bloody hotel.
Thank God I'm not bitter.!!

You have entirely missed the point raised here. Here it is not a question of 1hr. for cleaning. They have a fixed check out time of 3pm. or whatever and if you check in at 2pm your day there ends at 3pm and after 3pm you have to pay the rent for a day and your new day begins and if you check out at say 5pm you have to pay rent for 2 days. This is nothing short of daylight robbery.I am waiting for my advocate friend to return from GVR.

Same is true for any hotel. It is true not just in India, but worldwide. Do they give latitude ? Sure, if you are a regular guest. Let me know what your advocate friend tells you
