I assume you have been given a detailed break up of costs. I suggest that you check hotel websites for the botels you are booked at and compare prices with what you have been quoted. If your mode of travel is by AC car, add approx. INR 1500 per day for an Indica type vehicle and substantially more for Innova type. When you add all this up, you will get a reasonable idea whether it is a fair quote or not.

Also, do not hesitate to ask for a discount from the operator.

To give a bit more information- they have quoted for quite smart looking homestays.and the price quoted seems ok in relation to those quoted on their websites but all the same they do seem very expensive

Also Are these better than hotels

It really depends on what you are looking for. Indian travellers usually prefer hotels but many visitors from outside India seem to prefer homestays.

There are quite a few reviews of Kerala homestays in the hotels section. Also if you specify the names, perhaps our members who have stayed in these places can comment.

Good lord they are expensive.60000Each if you stay in maharajas palace i am sure it will cost you less.Anybody can make a good jazzy website and quote high price.i have known places that look great on web and looks like crap when i go there. My Humble opinion they are extremly costly.Bit of research on the site you will find best homestays at far less price.to be honest average cost per person for homestay should be around 20-25,000 including food per person at max.
