Dot miss this festival if you are visiting Kerala at the time. Although it is not as popular as Thrissur Pooram, it is an amazing experience!

Nemmara-Vallanghy vela is a festival that falls on the 20th of 'Meenam' according to the Malayalam calender (2nd or 3rd of every April). Thousands gather for this festival. It is celebrated in a rural village Nemmara (Nemmara and Vallanghy are two parts of this village) in the Palakkad District.

Location:

It is situated on the Trissur Pollachi route. From here, one can go to Tamil Nadu via Kollengode and Govindapuram to reach the town of Pollachi. This place has been a major location for many cine shooting. The location itself is a breath taking experience!

The festival is a great experience with one of the best firworks you can see at any festivals in Kerala, with elephants, panchavathyam (percussions involving 5 traditional instruments) and Thayambaka (solo chenda performance).

You can read more about the festival here:

How to get here:
Nearest Airport: Kochi or Coimbatore Nearest railway station: Palakkad or Trichur or Kollengode. From Kochi Airport: travel to Trichur - 30 km, take a taxi to Nemmara or by bus from Trichur bus stand to Nemmara - 48 km.

From Coimbatore Airport : By Taxi or bus to Palakkad - 60 km.

From Palakkad: By taxi or bus to Nemmara, 28 km.

YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REACH THE SCENE AN EVENING BEFORE THE FESTIVAL TO ENJOY IT TO THE FULLEST. It is also good if you choose to follow one side of the festival to see the whole processions and customs.

I normally reach there by late afternoon on 2nd of April and leave by 4th of April.

Its an amazing experience, if anyone wants to know more, feel free to post it here!
