Kerala during Diwali

Hi all,

Have been reading this forum for a few months now, thought it's about time to make my first post. I'm planning to go to Kerala in november. I have 7 or 8 days available, so proposed itinerary is Thiruvandanthapuram, Kollam, Kollam-Alappuzha backwaters cruise, Munnar, Kochi. I'm planning got get around by bus.

A couple of questions since my trip might coincide with Diwali:
- Am I better off skipping Thiruvandanthapuram and starting in Kochi, then bus to Kollam?
- do normal bus services still operate on public holidays?
- how about tourist services services like day tours or the Kollam-Alappuzha cruise?
- Am I going to have difficulty getting a seat on a bus during the holidays?

Also, would you consider this itinerary safe for a female travelling on her own? I had been considering a group tour for safety reasons (and to placate friends, family and co-workers) but there don't seem to be any available. Would appreciate any advice on this.
