Hi there, thats a good itinery, the Only Hiccup I see, UNLESS you have allready booked it,is the O'night houseboat Kollam to Alaphuza. It's quite difficult from what i hear to get a houseboat operator to do this route unless you are prepared to pay the bucks as the operator will probably charge for the Houseboat's return journey.

You may be better off doing the O'night houseboat in the Kollam area and if you have no specific reason to go to Alaphuzza(Allepey)you can head for Thekady after Kollam.

Check out the Hotels section for hotel and homestay reviews,IF you haven't allready.

BTW, as you have limited time frame a car & driver is the best way to go.

I am not hard pressed to spend a night on boat. A sunset experience would be enough.
Is it better to hire a day trip in Alappuzha for this?

Is it necessary to do advance booking of these boats?

As I said unless you have a specific reason to go to Allepey you can do the houseboat thing in Kollam even IF it is only a sunset trip.

Otherwise Yes you should be able to do an afternoon cruise in Allepey which you can arrange to take in the Sunset, and yes you can arrange this when you get there.

If you ar Unable to get a Houseboat for your sunset cruise get what is called a Country Boat cruise, will be a lot less in cost also.
