Hi,

I'm from Malaysia. This is my 1st time visit to India, lasting for 7days. I will start with Kochi for 2days. Need advice on:

1. Places to visit in Kochi or surroundings (especially churches), where to stay, food that i should not miss & etc.

2. From Kochi, can i go Coimbatore?

I know its very limited time but i hope not to miss the top things i should have covered.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to India ;-)

1. Don't miss the following at Kochi - Fort Kochi, Jew Street, Dutch Cemetery, . And if possible travel to Munnar(Tea Estates) or Kumarakom (Backwaters) both around 2hrs from Cochin.

2. Coimbatore is easily accessible from Kochi. Check in this site http://erail.in/. Also lots of private and public buses also ply between Coimbatore and Cochin. You can book buses at http://entravel.in/. Its just 4.5 hrs of journey from Kochi to Coimbatore.

If interested to you can go from Kochi to Munnar and then from there to Coimbatore via Udhumalppetai

Wish you a nice stay in India !! :-)

Thanks vonkla, aarosh & appliedinstrument for your suggestions. At least now i have some ideas on what & where. Now its just the matter of putting them together. I also forgot to inform that I will be arriving Kochi in the evening approx. 5pm and thats in last week of August.
Thought of staying in houseboat since i will only be staying 1 nite at Kochi:
1. Can i still get to a houseboat at that hour, i suppose i still need to travel to either Allepey or Kumarakom for this?
2. If yes, what should be the rate range?
3. Is it save for ladies to stay in houseboat?
4. Will they bring us back to Kochi the next day so we can cover the rest of the places suggested (except Munnar since we have not much time) by appliedinstrument?

Please pardon me for asking too many questions. Just that i know not much about India and so little time.

Truly appreciate all you ideas..

In case you missed Vonkla's link, here it is again,

http://www.ktdc.com/tours.php

There's some pretty good options there for your short stay.

As you have very limited time, I suggest you stay in Cochin area.
