Diwali in Kerala
My partner and I are going to be in Kerala during Divali we were in Kathmandu last year for the festivites and had a great time.
Where would people suggest is the best place to feel part of the celebrations? We're pretty flexible but are looking to be in the Cochin, Varkala, Trivanduram, or Kovallum area.
Thanks in advance for people's advice.
Welcome to India Mike!
I don't think you are lost but this is NOT Thorntree!:D
I'm sure someone will be along soon to answer your question.
Diwali is not really celebrated in Kerala. You have to go at least to Tamil Nadu to get some Diwali feeling.
I would agree with Federica. It is the only state in India where Diwali is not a major festival.
Kerala is the place to goto, to escape the celebrations (noise of crakers), And not to be a part of it.
I have been in Jodhpur, Bombay and Fort Cochin for Diwali. If you want to see it celebrated large I would give Kerala a miss!
All the answers are exactly true, although in temples like guruvayoor there is a special pooja and darshan..but if you wanna be part of all the diwali celebrations, get to tamilnadu
to Tamil Nadu to celebrate Diwali last year.
I ended up sharing the box of sweets that I had bought for him with some kids next door to where I was staying.Kids also had some good fire crackers.
