I am panning to travel from Chennai to Wayanad (Sultan Bathery) during Christmas holidays.

Planning to start by Morning 10 AM from Perumbakkam, Chennai on 22nd December (Friday) and reach Wayanad in the Night. Planning to Spend 3 days there.

I would like to have information on the route. I have 4 routes to reach Wayanad.

1. Chennai --> Sripermbudur --> Bangalore --> Mandya --> Mysore --> Gundelpet --> Sultan Bathery

2. Chennai --> Sripermbudur --> Bangalore --> kanakapura --> Mysore --> Gundelpet --> Sultan Bathery

3. Chennai --> Tambaram --> Villupuram --> Ulundurpet --> Salem --> Bhavani --> Gobichettypalayam --> Satyamangalam --> Chamrajanager --> Gundelpet --> Sultan Bathery

4. Chennai --> Tambaram --> Villupuram --> Ulundurpet --> Salem --> Avanashi --> Annur --> Mettupalayam --> Ooty --> Gudalur--> Sultan Bathery

On average I would cover 90 KM per hour. Suggest the best route to reach Wayand

completed the drive Chennai to Wayanad

I planned to take the Chennai option 3 with a slight deviation. 4 Adults and a Kid are travelling with the All New Maruti dzire (Diesel).

Chennai --> Kelambakkam --> Thiruporur --> Chengelpet --> Villupuram --> Ulundurpet --> Salem --> Bhavani --> Gobichettypalayam --> Satyamangalam --> Chamrajanager --> Gundelpet --> Sultan Bathery

Started my journey from home around 9:30, after completing breakfast. Since I started on a Friday morning I took the Kelambakkam, Thiruporur, Chengelpet route to avoid traffic on the GST road till Chengelpet. Crossed Chengelpet around 10:40.

Reached Adyar Anandha Bhavan near Ulundurpet for lunch around 12:30. Stopped for an hour break to feed my Princess, 2 year old. Stated my journey towards Salem around 13:30.

Not much traffic on the road, so I was able to cruise at a very constant speed. Reached the outskirts of Salem around 15:15. Traffic started to build up by the time, took the left turn for the Coimbatore highway from the Salem bypass and continued my journey.

Took a coffee break for half an hour before reaching Bhavani. Reached Bhavani around 17: 00 After crossing Bhavani, we could find sign boards to take a right turn to travel towards Satyamangalam.

Reached Satyamangalam around 18:15 hrs, filled the diesel in the car the petrol pumb near the town and stated my journey. within next 15 minutes was near the Banari Amman temple. Prayed to God ( by seated in Car) for all good Journey and to reach Gudalur wildlife sanctuary before 21: 00. Since the road to Sultan Bathery will be closed from 21:00 Hrs to 6:00 hrs all night.

Strated to climb the Thimbam Ghat section. Since it was evening hours there was too many Lorry traffic on the road. Reached the top of the Thimbham ghat around 19:00. Clocking is ticking every second and I am feeling nervous but was driving the car with care.

Once crossed the Tamilnadu state the Karnataka roads are not that good when compared to the Tamilnadu roads. Pathholes are at many places which slowed down my journey. Was able to reach ChamrajaNagar by 20:00 hrs.

ChamrajaNagar to Gundelpet road which is of 35 Km was pretty ok to travel and i covered the distance in 30 minutes. Still 17 KMs to go. There was road road happening within the Gundelpet town. But managed to cross Gundelpet in 10 minutes.

To my surprise the Gundelpet to Bandipur Check post road was newly laid and could see no vehicles coming from the opposite direction. All Vehicles are Cruising at a very high speed to cross the check post on time.

I pushed the accelerator very hard so that I could cross a Cruising speed of 140 Kmph on my new car. Crossed the checkpost around 20:55. Was very much relaxed after crossing the checkpost.

The Bandipur forest area roads are decent and have speed breakers every now and then to limit the speed of the ongoing traffic. Finally was able to reach Sultan bathery by 10 PM.

Started time : 9:30 Am
Reached time : 10:00 Pm
Overall Travel Time : 12:30 hrs
Breaks : 01: 45 minutes including filling diesel

Distance covered : 632 Kms
