Ashtami Rohini (Krishna Janmashtami - birth of Lord Sri Krishna)Festival 2011 @ Guruvayur - Dates are 22 nd & 23 August.

Dates taken from this link
http://www.guruvayurevents.com/

I found following links describing the festival

http://enchantingkerala.org/kerala-f...val-kerala.php

Mentions that Elephant procession is held along with drum
http://www.indiavideo.org/kerala/wor...temple-143.php

Official Website Link No details given of the celebration http://www.guruvayurdevaswom.org/orfestivals.html

Any idea about the actual celebrations at the Guruvayur temple. Is there Elephant procession ? Which of the date mentioned above is likely to have more of the celebration ? I am planning to visit Kerala (for Nehru Boat race on 13 th August) & luckily the festival is near that date. Any first hand information on the festival will be appreciated.

We (wife & me) are planning to witness the Nehru Boat race (In Alleppey) on August 13 th. Then we want to move to Fort cochin & Athirapally water fall & Guruvayur temple before returning back to Mumbai. Since the dates are matching with Ashatami Rohini we thought why not try & see the celebrations. But I am yet to know what kind of celebrations exactly happen during the day.

Do you have any idea about celebrations at Amballapuzha Temple ?

Last year's trip to Kerala was cancelled. So putting the Ashtami Rohini celebration question again.

This year Janmashtami is on 9 - 10 th August. Any idea about the actual celebrations at the Guruvayur temple. Is there Elephant procession ? Which of the date mentioned above is likely to have more of the celebration ? Any first hand information on the festival will be appreciated.
