hi there , new to the forum but find it a great source of advice and information for he independent traveller . anyway here is my story , arrive in mubai on 29th march depart on the 17april . flying to cochin on 30th ,prob spend 2or 3 nights there and do the backwater experience , next is on to wayanad ,which will be difficult to travel to from cochin but i really want to go there.plan is to spend 4or 5 days there in wayand and then onto mysore for another few days and finish up in banagalore for 2 or 3 nights and fly back to mumbai to meet a friend on the 15th april. so is this too much of an itinerary to take on or should i take another easier route around kerala . not that much of a beach person so prefer jungle /wildlife and historic temples. open to any suggestions ....jim ....

Yes , it is possible to do that. Also there will be no problems of transport between Cochin and Wayanad ...
You can also checkout Silent Valley National park or the Bandipur/Mudumalai part from these places.

thanks for advice but just have been looking at the travel plans
for that particular itinerary and might give it a miss as dont want to put myself under too much stress cos will be working long hours up to the day i fly so will be fairly exhausted. so might try headin down the coast to varkala to relax for a few days and see what happens after that . thanks for advice anyway . first time in india so dont want to rush it too much , travelled through vietnam and laos 10 years ago over a period of a month and was wrecked after it ,did too much ,so might just stay in one place for a few days and decide then what to do .

In summer, wayanad would be a better choice than beaches. When you travel from Alleppey to Wayanad, you could take a break at Coconut Island in Trichur. Alleppey - Trichur: 3 hours. Trichur - Wayanad: 4 hours. This is one of my favorite place. A private island in the backwaters for 2 persons only.

And there are some small nice beach hotels in Kannoor. Like Costa Malabari.

If you are interested in snakes you can visit the snake park in Kannur.

Check the wiki entry.

Detailed trip plan

Hi,

If you wish to really see the entire prestige and tradition of Kerala, you must travel form the North of Kerala to the southern tip. Starting from Calicut the traditional abundance is clearely visible. The beaches, temples, forts, game reserves, high range areas are all enchanting. Do take care not to miss Munnar and Thekkady. Do revert back if u need more data.

Regards,

James Fletcher.
