Hi all,

I am in desperate need to help as it has been a kind of a unplanned trip to kerela for me...But I want to make it happen...

Myself and my wife managed hard for leaves and luckily they got sanctioned...We were planning to head towards Himachal Pradesh but considering current rough and chilly weather in the north as well as advises from senior IndiaMike members, I cancelled my Himachal trip and planned to head to another heaven... Kerela

Today morning going to the railway station I somehow managed tickets for Cochin and yes we are heading....

But the real issue being I have no plans on what to visit and what not to visit.

In my hindsight when I think of kerela I can think of a secluded beach with a seashore nearby and I am enjoying my honeymoon with my wife...
1) please help me find such a good and quiet homestay nearby beach...
2) I have 8 days in kerela with me excluding travel back home...So I want to enjoy these eight days with unexplored places....

I have plans to visit Munnar ..not sure what to choose between Thekkady and Periyar...please suggest...

Allepey and Kumarakoram I guess are very commercialised places...so please suggest should I visit these places...

I have heard about Kovalam and Varkala as good beaches....but please help me select some similar clean beach near Cochin as I will moving in radius around Cochin...

Also most important what places I should consider for stays ...
My conditions are

1) I want to enjoy homestays nearby beaches ..queit surroundings and non commercialised..
2) I am looking for a economical accomodation with max 2000 per day..
3) Should I combine ooty too as I have heard good things about Nilgiri toy train....

Please help me plan a memorable trip....plz bang back and I will answer so that you can help me plan a good trip...

Thanks a lot in advance and am expecting quick and decent answers...I have to catch a train day after tommorow morning..i.e. 27th so only 1 day in hand...please help

I have not stayed there myself, only visited Cherai for the afternoon. It is a short boat ride and then bus ride away from Fort Cochin. Please use the "search" of IndiaMike. There are many threads discussing Cherai. I will try to locate some of them for you!

and then search the similar threads on the right hand side of the page from there.

In Cochin I went over with the ferry close to the famous Chinees fishingnets. On the otherside regularly a bus was waiting. I took the bus, and after about 20 minutes it reached a beautifull beach. Some new accommodation over there (about 6 years ago). I have no addresses or anything.

I would not recommend Ooty.
Lots of scenic beauty but almost 90% of all touristy spots can be covered in 1 single day with on a cab.
Of course, there are people who would say the real Ooty is not in all those tourist spots but believe me it's just views and views. Gets pretty boring.
And you would be investing extra time to get there.

very true....I just found out to get to Ooty and to get out of Ooty is a pain in itself...I will better stay out of Ooty and better enjoy Munnar...

Thanks a lot for advise... Any suggestions on more offbeat places ? also have you been to Munnar? how is it comparatively ?

PG - can you afford a car + driver. If so, given below are some spots we visited in 2002. Our overall trip was very hectic and so I cannnot recommended for a honeymoon but a few of the spots we visited were quieter and you may consider including them. The first was Athirapally waterfalls near Cochin. The second was thekkady (the town near periyar- I thought lake periyar was very scenic). The third was Munnar. The fourth were the backwaters at Kumarakom (alleppy was the farther end of the lake for us so we went to K'kom).

I have only been to Kerala for strictly official purposes so can't help you there, but a friend who spent his honeymoon in Kerala told that the personal house boat thing is great experience not to be missed.
That's my knowledge of Kerala.
