I am an avid horse rider, but unfortunately no longer own one.

My flight gets in to Jodhpur on 7 December, and I believe we are staying for a few days.

I would absolutely LOVE the opportunity to visit and take wonderful pictures of this wonderful breed!

Any tips, or any owners out there who would help out a horse-mad girl?

Thanks!!

You could contact these guys - http://www.hacra.org/Riding_Safaris.htm. No personal experience and only one of the many that offer Horse safaris and tours around Jodhpur area.

I'm not so interested in the riding aspect as my boyfriend is a non-rider. I'd just love to be able to meet owners and learn some of the history and value they have. I know they're referred to as the dancing horses at times, and their whorls/colouring etc have different meanings. Would be wonderful to take some pictures!

I've seen horses all decked up as part of some ceremonies (not talking about weddings). Could you look at this photo and see if the one on the left extreme with a white streak down his face is a marwari horse? http://www.indiamike.com/india/chai-...9/#post1782784. This was at Jaipur polo club. No charge to enter, and click photos.

vaibhav_arora, unfortunately the only breed specific thing a Marwari has is the ears which turn in at the top and can swivel 180o... I can't tell from that picture! Apart from that, they can be built like any typical WB as far as I am aware. A white streak that takes up most of the face is called a blaze

That's amazing! Do they just roam free, or are they being herded through??

These are the Maharaja's horses. They head through that gate to their stables in Mandir Palace every morning. Some days they amble in on their own, but most days they are followed by a herdsman on horseback.
