Hello from freezing Munich,

my boyfriend is travelling for 2 weeks through India. Kolkata, Jaipur, Udaipu, Jodhpur....all by himself. Last two weeks were wonderful, he called or texted everyday, had in every hotel internet access for skype, facebook or whatsapp.

He has arrived in Jodhpur several days ago, and wants to stay there until the 14th.

I have seen him on whatsapp yesterday evening, but not today! which makes me worried. he was "active" on facebook until this morning. the whole day today no facebooking and no whatsapping. my whatsapp message hasnt been delivered to him throughout the whole day. my message still has only one check mark...which means he hasnt had any connection to internet or wlan today or in the evening.

i dont know if he changed his hotel, he sometimes did so. so my only idea would be that he changed to a hotel without wifi in jodhpur. OR that he did a whole day trip to some sourrounding places around jodhpur. are there any daylong trips strarting from jodhpur sleeping there overnight and returning to your hotel only the next day???

Yet it feels strange that not even now in the evening he is able to get access to wlan.

is this on off internett access problem possibe in india?

I checked all the online news and newspaper for "tourist accident jodhpur or rajashthan" -fortunately i dindt find anything relevant.
Can you all help me in some way?

Blairy, yes it is certainly possible that he doesn't have internet access. I can't speak about Jodhpur as it is over 20 years since I was there but last year I was in a couple of places in India (sizeable towns, not villages) where I was unable to find any wifi. My family and friends received no Whatsapp messages or emails for 5 or 6 days, but they know that there's no cause for concern.

It's also possible that he went out on a camel trip into the desert from Jodhpur - I've heard of other tourists doing it from there.

Please don't worry. One day with no contact is really too soon to be worrying.

Thank you very much! THis is a post which i can totally understand and grab the meaning of.
Your details are very helpful to me. Cameltour, desert - how cool - so i guess they would sleep there in the desert and return only the next day.

Right. The most important thing to remember is that when traveling in India, it's not always possible to get internet access or a phone connection, for various reasons.

You can ignore Sama and Ananda - they've got too much time on their hands and no compassion.

Blairy, please don't keep going over these disaster scenarios in your mind. Nothing to be gained.

It is perfectly possible for a visitor to be contactless for a couple of days for perfectly okay reasons.

But he said the day before yesterday that he would not go on to udaipur but stay in jodhpur until the 12th in order to relax a little bit. he added: that maybe he would do some "ausflüge in das umland"....some trips/travelling to the sourroundings of jodhpur. but i never thought this would involve NOT coming back to his hotel in the evening!!!!
yet, the cameltour-overnight in the desert thing from jodhpur would be something he would love to do.
if he would travel around i would understand that wlan cant be found in every hotel. but he already HAS a hotel in jodhpur.....yet, he sometimes changes them.
i am very confused.

Hi Blairy,

Relax. Several years ago we did the same trip out of Jodhpur as described here.
http://radinja2.blogspot.fr/2012/02/...to-desert.html.
The trip was organized by the Durag Niwas guesthouse in Jodhpur and we stayed in a small desert village, far from the civilized world.
There will be more such kind of trips.

Doesn't it happen in Munich? I grumble about 3G/4G connectivity being unreliable in my Chennai house, but...

On a recent visit to UK, my EE 4G SIM card gave me fantastic coverage close to the miles-away-from-everywhere rural tip of South-West England ...and barely worked at all in my friend's flat in central London.

Nothing works in India like it does in the West, so dont worry about it. It could be anything from: a) city has an internet outage; b) friend is too busy; c) friend is in some small town without any internet; d) is in the desert on a camel safari; e) some other technical reason
