We are traveling to India in December and we have 1 extra night left to spend in either Jodhpur or Jaipur. Please can someone advise on the best choice, based on things to see and do?

As Mridula rightly asked, it is difficult to suggest with out knowing your complete itinerary.

Jodhpur!

We preferred this by far to Jaipur, whose traffic, congestion and noise made our visit a real test of our traveler's mettle.

While it's true that you can take a short trip north out of Jaipur to see the Amber Fort and cram in a visit to the Jaipur City Palace in the same day, the crowds in late December took some of the fun out of it.

We really enjoyed our visit to Jodhpur, where we stayed for a few nights a bit out of the fray in an elegant, inexpensive room at the Inn Season Hotel. We took an early-morning rickshaw ride up to the Jaswant Thanda Tombs and then walked across the hillside to spend most of the day wandering through Meherengarh Fort, following their excellent audio tour and gazing out over the city. Perhaps because of its size it felt less hectic and crowded with tourists. From there we easily wandered down the hill and through the old city, past the spice shops and bangle sellers around the clocktower in Sardar market. A fabulous day!

I would go with Jodhpur, too! Wander the streets looking for the back entrance to the fort, and check out the garden on the way out - a nice break if it's a hot day.

Uzzy 2 days in my opinion are enough in Jaipur to cover the major monuments and eat some daal bati churma!

Give Jodhpur a try for the simple reason that it will have less tourists.

Jodhpur!

The fort in Jodhpur was one of the highlights of our trip. Don't miss that. We also liked wandering around the blue city area, and Sadar Market, although the city area outside of that isn't too appealing. It's definitely worth a couple of days.

As a city, we found Jaipur generally disappointing.

2 days are enough in Jodhpur too for the major sights. With the left over day, you could take a day trip to Ranakpur and be back.

I like Ranakpur as they still allow photography (vs Mt Abu where they dont) and they're very complete Jain temples.

Please check my other posts for what to see in Jaipur here (I've tried to group places based on convenience): http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...9/#post1025734

House Boat Cruise - Cochin

Can anyone please advise me on any 1 night/2 day Houseboat/Rice boat cruise that does not cost a fortune, but still nice? We are going in December and I know it is peak season in India, but I am sure for 1 night you can get something for less than Rs8500 per couple?
