Hello everyone in this monsoon season we went to jharkhand and faced a hell like experience.Previously we went ghatsila a long 6/7 years back and that time we gathered a pretty good memories. That time we went from jhargram and road condition was good.So this time we planned a three days tour around ghatsila and dalma pahar. We started saturday afternoon at 3 pm and the first half was pretty good. From barasat to kharagpur 150 km was trouble less.We were little bit worried about lodhasuli jungle beacause of its maoist activities and it is evining time.We heard that police convoy helps to pass that stretch but there was no such story. We were crusing along lodhasuli at 6.30 pm and the stretch was lonely. As we getting nearer towads baheragora inter state boundary roads became bad.We paused at fekoghat because there were another way and after enquering we came to know that road is going towads orrisa border through gopiballavpur and hatibari. There was a man who told us that this stretch upto ghatsila 70 km is in bad condition. But we had no other choice so we started.Weather god also was in sad mood so the rain starts.Big and bigger pathhole making roads unbearable. It is ford figo and he is tring his best to make us happier but it is beyond his and any hatchbacks limit and even suv like scorpio was struggling to finish it off.We were all very terryfied beacause every now and then figos ground was touching road surface. It became more horrible when we saw in our front that there is no road at all.Its looking like a wavy platue. We experinced this hell upto bahargora.Big 16 and 20 wheels trucks making this hell more horrible day by day. After bahargora around 20 km you can breath a little but after that it is same hell like road continues upto ghatsila. We suffered a lot ,one wheel rim gets bend and we finished this 70 kms in 4 hours.Next day we enquered about galudi, jamshedpur and dalmas road condition but there is no difference in it.Local motor mechanics and dhaba owners are furious about jharkhand government beacause they are doing nothing to fix this problem and this businessman are loosing their business day by day.No tourist are coming and trucks number are slashing and they are seeing no hopes in near future. After enquering a lot we changed our tour plan and decide to go back jhargram. But it is also getting difficult to get a normal road. The conditon of chakulia road was also very very bad so we take kuragacha diversion and somehow managed to reach jhargram.

I think now at last the Jharkhand government is taking some initiative to repair some of these areas properly, using somewhat better technology. Please see this link here.

Hello, I am planning to visit Ghatshila-Galudi by 15th August for 2 days. Can anyone help me with the route and the road condition? Should I take the route through Durgapur-Bakura or through Kharagpur? How is the road condition? I do not mind to drive few extra km in good road rather than the broken roads.

You have to stick to NH-6 all the way up to Bahragora, from where you should turn right on the Jamshedpur bound road to reach Galudi.

I am sorry I did not understand your question fully. Do you wish to start your journey from Calcutta or from some other place? Do you wish to take the Purulia Chandil route? Even Bankura Midnapore route is rather much circuitous and much longer one. And even if the road condition is bad, you can not avoid the bad section by this route. Or are you opting for Chakulia Dhalbhumgarh route?

One friend of mine drove by this route around four month earlier. He reported that the road was in bad shape only in the state of West Bengal. I may at least assure you that till Kharagpur and after Bahragora the road is in decent shape.

Thank you for your suggestions. But How is the road condition from Bahragora to galudi?

I will start my journey from Kolkata. I heard that Jamshedpur bound road from Bahragora is in very bad condition, so I though an alternate route through (Burdwan-Dgp-Bakura), which is definitely a very longer route.

One friend of mine drove by this route around four month earlier. He reported that the road was in bad shape only in the state of West Bengal. I may at least assure you that till Kharagpur and after Bahragora the road is in decent shape.
In that case, I will stick to NH 6 and then Jamshedpur road.

Thank you Rahul Da for your help.

I assume that you will be driving your own car. If so, will you please tell me (at your leisure) in this forum (or maybe outside of it, through a PM), how is the actual condition of the road? Has the monsoon taken it's toll on the road badly?

Please do not respond to my post if someone else drives the car you will be travelling in.

I am sorry I do not know the current road condition all the way up to Jamshedpur. But an acquaintance of mine had returned after spending his vacation at Ghatshila. He drove his SUV and had reported that the road was in decent shape. Only three KM of road near the Chichira border is bad. Again beyond Baharagorah two KM is in very bad shape. Rest is fine, at least till Ghatshila.
