Dear Friends & Mentors,
Its since long I got some time to browse through this extremely useful travel forum. I'm privileged to be a Member of this community.

Coming to the point, I did not find any recent write-up on Deoghar-Rajgir circle, preciously in some 2 - 3 years time. But I'm sure that fellow IMer's have treasures in their belly to lend a hand of advice and suggestions, when it’s come to Travel.

Preciously I had planned or rather finalized a programme covering this circuit, just after the Pujo. Train Tickets and accommodation booked, its just a wait of days before sailing. My better-half & junior would accompany.

Although I had been to these places in my early childhood days and during School excursion, little I could remember in details. And where could be other than IM, one could ask for expert advice and suggestions before venturing out.

The Plan is as under :

Day 1: 15.10.2016 – Leaving for Jasidih Jn. ( Deoghar) by Poorva Express
leaving at 8.05 AM.
-Reach Jasidih at 12.11 Noon, proceed to Deoghar.
-Evening sightseeing and Pujo at Baba Baidyanath Temple.
Day 2: 15.10.2016 - Deoghar Sightseeing – Trikut Pahar, Nandan Kanan,
Tapoban, Santsang, Ramkrishna Mission, Naulakha
Mandir, Basukinath Temple. (Did I miss anything?)
Day 3: 17.10.2016 - Onward journey to Rajgir. Dhanbar-Patna Exp. leaving
Jasidih 11.32 AM reaching Bakhtiyarpur 3.28 PM.
Local Sightseeing.
Day 4: 18.10.2016 -Local Sightseeing of Biswa Santi Stupa, Ropeway,
Griddhakuta Peak, Sonbhandara, Ajatshatru Fort, Hot
Spring, Bimbisara Jail. (I’m sure I missed something)
Day 5: 19.10.2016 - Leave Early for Bodhgaya, Nalanda & Pawapuri.
Return to Rajgir.
Day 6: 20.10.2016 - Leisure day. Local sightseeing
(May be Ropeway for a second time)
-Leave for Howrah by RN Patna-How Exp. at 10.09 PM.

The purpose of this prelude is to extract as much information and advice before voyage, specifically related to travel time, places for must visit, food n drinks, cost & mode of travel dos n don'ts etc.

My accommodation is booked with Canara Bank Holiday Home. Darn cheap, although got some feedback about the poor & treacherous conditions there. May have to shift somewhere if needed. Some feedback about the same will be helpful.

Till then, expecting all the best………………
A Journey declined is a Learning denied...

Return to Rajgir.
The only thing that I can contribute to your detailed itinerary is, that it is not possible to do that in one day. Even if you rented a car, you would be hard pressed to do this in one day (Nalanda and Pawapuri first, then BG). Actually it would be possible (even though rushed) if you stayed in BG over night, as the atmosphere at Mahabodhi in the evening is something very special.

If your nights are definitely booked and you cannot change, then go to Bodh Gaya that day, then do Nalanda and Pawapuri the last day. It is hard to get taxis in Rajgir; I found only two cars available there 3 years ago, and the price for Nalanda alone was Rs 800, the driver would not budge to get lower at all (but we were foreigners, obviously).

The tonga ride to the Ropeway was Rs 250, including waiting and return. A bargain I'd say, because the distance is considerable, and we were 3 adults.

Bring some food for the Langurs at Vulture Peak.

Thanks atala, for your immediate response...

I was also wandering the same. Keeping a day for Bodhgaya itself be helpful? Rajgir to Bodhgaya and back.

The last day i.e Day 6 could be kept for Konark & Pawapuri..

There are buses to Gaya, but they start from Rajgir town, rather than Rajgir Venuvan area (where the main monuments, like the hot springs, are and where most people stay in some run-down hotel). I enquired about them and got not very satisfying answers. There is a bus around 6 a.m. with frequent stops. The distance is rather big. It is 70 km to BG.

A car from Gaya to Rajgir was Rs 800. The other way was a lot more. A whole-day-job can go as high as Rs 2000-2500, as that is the normal day rate.

There are also a few trains to Gaya, but not very reliable and long-distance trains possibly running very late.

PS you were in Puri recently, with your Konark misquote?

You may leave Jasidih early and complete your visit of Nalanda and Rajgir by evening and reach Rahgir railway station by 16:00 Hrs.

There is a DEMU between Rajgir (Departure at 16:12 Hrs) and Gaya (Arrival at 19:35 Hrs) which remains generally timely.

Night stay may be planned at Gaya and Bodg Gaya may be visited next day.

Thanks atala, but I don't feel paying up 2-2.5K for just BG. I do have a spare day and so checking options...

Prakant, I'm tossing with your idea as I have a spare day. May be visiting BG by DEMU and returning the next day to Rajgir could be a better option. In that case I need to stay at Gaya for the night. Any Hotel recommendation???

With Prakaant's version of the trip you would have to sacrifice the hill-excursions; especially the Ropeway which is way out of town takes up a lot of time, at least about 4 hours (going and returning into Rajgir included). If you returned to Rajgir on the final day, you could do it then (late afternoon? maybe not, maybe you have to skip it, as your Bodh Gaya visit would be very rushed.)

By what means would you return to Rajgir from Bodh Gaya? This time a taxi for about Rs 1000 from BG (800 from Gaya), with a stop at the Ropeway?! It is a little off the main road into Rajgir.

If OP reaches Bakhtiyarpur early in the morning then he may very well cover all the places conveniently and reach Rajgir by 12 at noon or 1 PM, and complete first Ropeway and then rest of places.

He may stay there and take late evening or next morning train to Gaya.

Wouldn't it make more sense to go on to BG on the night itself and stay there? And be in BG early morning already?
