I am planning to go to Vaishno Devi temple but have a few questions.

I know that cameras are not allowed, but can/should I take my camera to the last cloak room where my shoes will be deposited and all other items that are not allowed into the temple will be deposited.

Also I was reading somewhere and was not clear if there is a luggage check area at the bottom before I start walking, or do I carry all my things(Pithoo will carry) to the top?

Does the Pithoo walk with you or ahead of you and wait at certain points? Is it best to give all things to the Pithoo and only carry money in my pockets? Will I need Id or any family members need to carry their passport to the Temple, or can I leave these important documents at my families home in Delhi?

With all my family members we will probably have at least 4 bags, does one Pithoo carry all the bags, do they have provisions to carry these things or do I need to bring a sheet or something to wrap all our bags in.

Thanks for answers.

Thumbs up

Jai mata di: Better you take only the most essential things with you while you are trekking & that too a pithoo can carry. Better still would be to have a haversack/small backpack individually wherein you can have all your emergency items like windcheater/darkglasses/ small umberlla/ warmclothes medicines etc. Passports can be at home. it is always better not carry this important documents. You can take camera but videography is not allowed. you can take mobile but all these things have to be kept in the cloak room, before you enter for darshan. Pithoos are really good/honest & very humane & very dependeable. All my best wishes.

Good Advice by psrinivasan63 !

1. Leave Passports at home.
2. One Pithoo can acary all 4 bags. Pithoos generally move faster, but you may ask them to pace themselves as per you.
3. Luggage will be checked at Banganaga entry point. There is a cloak room at Banganga entry point too.
4. Camera will have to be deposited at the Bhavan Cloak Room.
I did not fully understand the dread term "Terminal Illness" until I saw Terminal 1 D of Delhi Airport.

Thanks for the replies.

When you mention luggage check, does that mean my clothes and things that I plan to change into later.
We are mainly only carrying 2 changes of clothes, food and camera.
Would any of this need to be checked in at Banganaga entry point?
We will reach Jammu by early morning train and then travel to Katra, and then start our climb up. Depending on the time we reach the temple we will either rest and change our clothes then go to the temple for dharshan. After that we plan to visit Bhaironat. We may rest in between but will do according to how it is when we are there.
Is this a good plan. Will I need to check any of this as luggage at the entry point?

Regarding Luggage check, you may check your extra luggage at Banganga itself and then carry the required luggage upto the Bhavan itself. There you can take a bath in community baths and change the clothes. Then you may check your luggage at Bhavan Cloak Room and go for Darshans.

After Darshans you can go to Bahiron Temple. Infact Vaishno Devi darshans are not considered complete, if you do not visit Bhairon temple.

If you start in the morning, it will be night when you reach Bhairon, so, it's advisable to carry a flashlight (torch) as this area is little sceluded and not many people visit Bhairon.

There are many rest stops enroute.Ardh Kumari & Sanjhi Chhat being the major ones. There are many food stalls enroute.....Even Cafe Coffee Days / Pizza Hut outlets are also there.

A good strategy is to rent a room in the temple accomodation complex at the base. Keep all your stuff there, freshen up and then go with minimum possible luggage.

It is not very expensive and helps to have a place to decompress once you come down.

Also before the final darshan, pretty much everything..belts, pens have to be deposited in the lockers available there

It is a very well organised process and pretty safe.

To get a sense for the journey check out

PithooWILL NOT WAIT THEY ARE VERRY RELUCTANT TO WAIT
Is it best to give all things to the Pithoo and only carry money in my pockets? THEY HAVE PROVISIONS TO CARRY EVERYTHING NO NEED TO CARRY .................SOMETHING TO WRAP AROUND SHEET ETC.
Thanks for answers.

It seems, you wish to know how many passengers are permitted in one trip.

5-6 passengers can be accommodated in one flight by Pawan Hans and Global Vectra.
