Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Katra has revamped its official website and has added a lot of features at https://www.maavaishnodevi.org/

Look, appearances, and navigational properties have been changed for the better, though, IMHO, a lot more of improvement is required to be done, specially on the monetary transaction front. These changes were required to be done since a long time, which have been done now.

The entire information links have been provided on the top of page. Link to the Online Services has been provided on the right side of page.

Here one thing is to be noted: The devotees registered with the old website are again required to re-register themselves at the website to use the online booking services by clicking here.

A valid E-Mail ID and mobile number would be required to be entered while doing registration. The user ID, and password are sent to the registered E-Mail ID. The received password should be changed. I did not see the mobile number being utilized in the process.

There was no Logout feature in the older version of the website. Now, it has been added.
  • Earlier there was no limit of online transactions. But, it has been made limited as per new arrangements:
  • Now, a maximum of 05 seats of helicopter can be booked by a user in a calendar month for helicopter travel from Katra to Sanjhichhat/Sanjhichhat to Katra.
  • A maximum of one Room/05 dormitory beds can be booked by a user in a calendar month.
  • A maximum of 05 Attka can be booked by a user in a calendar month.
  • A maximum of one transaction for Shraddha Suman Vishesh Pooja (SSVP) can be done by a user in a calendar month.
  • A maximum of one Poojan (Rs. 5100) can be booked by a user in a calendar month.

These rules implies that if you have more than 5 persons in the team who wish to have darshan, you would be required to do more than one registrations from the team to avail the facilities.
The biggest drawback of the whole system, IMO, is online booking, once done, shall not be Cancelled, Postponed, Pre-poned. In case of failure to utilize the facility the amount would be treated as donation.

The users are required to get their Helicopter Ticket stamped from the concerned helicopter authority in case the flight is cancelled due to bad weather or any technical reason. And submit the same to the Enquiry and Reservation Section, Shakti Bhawan, Niharika, Katra for refund.

Online booking on the official website of SMVDSB can be done maximum 30 days and minimum 04 days in advance from the date of journey/ booking.

The website claims, that
Quote:
"no request for reservation shall be entertained either through email or against Demand draft."
But elsewhere, it asks to get the accommodation reserved by sending demand draft to Katra Office!

While doing reservation for Attka Aarti by clicking here, it shows the total numbers of seats and available numbers of seats.

One thing has been added in the system. Now the site asks for ID details. There are in total 7 options available for ID Proof. These are: Passport, PAN Card, Voter I-Card, Government issued I-Card, Student I-Card, Bank Passbook, and Credit Card. The site also asks for ID Proof Numbers. Hence it would be required to keep all these details handy while doing registrations.

One is required to click on the option of Helicopter Services for registration. The Same requirement is to be fulfilled while doing registration for Helicopter ride. Once again, the option appears with the available number of seats in a particular flight. So again, it has become easier while doing registration to avail the helicopter services.

There is one thing which could be noticed. There is no availability of rooms in Main Bhawan Complex shown on the website.

It seems, still it is required to be done by sending draft to the Katra Office as instructed at https://www.maavaishnodevi.org/rented_acc.aspx.

The booking would start at midnight of 24-25th April. You would be doing it at the earliest possible.

Hopefully you have registered yourself on the website.

There are multiple options to stay at Katra including accommodation being provided by the Shrine Board. In case you are unable to find accommodation through website, you may try to find one on arrival. You would find a lot of persons at Bus Stand offering private accommodation. One of you may go to see the available accommodation and once confirmed, rest of the team would join you!

To start a new thread on Kashmir, you would be required to visit Jammu & Kashmir Forum by clicking here. You need to search available threads. If topic related to your query is not present in the Forum, you may click New Thread available on top left corner of Forum box and start new thread!

Friends,

Please review my itinerary of may 2012 also and please tell the feasibility.

We are a group of 14 persons including chilren, adults and elders.

Day 1 (May 20): Reaching Jammu at 9 AM morning and proceed to srinagar (I have already booked a tempo traveller for the entire journey). Night stay in srinagar.

Day 2 (May 21): Srinagar sight seeing, shankaracharya temple, gardens, shikara rides etc. Night in srinagar.

Day 3 (May 22): Proceed to sonmarg. See the Thajwas glacier. Is it possible to visit Baltal and Zojilla pass same day and return back to srinagar by evening? Does it worth? Night in srinagar.

Day 4 (May 23): Proceed to patnitop in early morning 5 AM. with all luggagge. Reach patnitop by 11 or 12. Check in into a hotel. Have lunch and go for patnitop sight seeing including sansar. Return back by evening. Is the time sufficient?? After sight seeing can we get some budget accommodation nearby patnitop or sansar or on the way to katra as we have a vehicle with us.

Day 5 (May 24, Thursday): Depart for katra at early morning 5 AM. Reach katra by 7. Obtain yatra parchi and proceed for bhawan by 9 AM. Is it possible? Is it difficult to get yatra parchi for same day in may month? Should i obtain online yatra parchi? What are the benefits of online yatra parchi?

Proceed to bhawan. Reach after 8 hours, around 3 o'clock. Rest in the room (will have already booked). Fresh up and proceed for darshan. Then have bhairawnath darshan and return back. Will darshan be over by morning??

Day 6 (May 25, friday): Next day morning, depart from bhawan at 7 o'clock and reach katra by 1 PM. Have lunch and proceed for jammu by 3 PM to catch train at 7 PM.

Please look into the feasibility of the itinerary...

Congrats!
You would be required to carry valid identity card for each traveller along with the printout of the tickets.

It is called priority darshan.

Once you reach Bhawan, you would be required to visit Room no 04 at Kalika Bhawan. A darshan would be arranged from there.

Post-edit: Further you should read this page and this page thoroughly along with the details written on the e-tickets before embarking on your journey!

Thank you, Dek,
The wishes of members like you boost our energy to do so. Motto behind this thread was to bring all the necessary information at one place.

People do face problems while negotiating the website also hence thought to do so!

Regarding your queries:

Quote:
Train from Ambala Cantt to Jammu then....?
Almost all the trains, which goes to Jammu Tawi, pass through Ambala Cantt. The train journey takes around 6 hours from Ambala Cantt.

You would get buses just opposite Jammu Tawi railway station, which goes to Katra and charges are Rs 54 per passenger.

You may take your son also. Just be careful: the climate would be colder than plain.
Quote:
can we book the accomodation by paying online?
The best time is that time when you plan to visit. But you would face heaviest rush during Navratro and school vacation time. It would be difficult even to get accommodation during that time. For the rest of time, you may even book accommodation by visiting website mentioned in the first post!

Quote:
what does attka mean?
I don't know the exact meaning of Attka, but the word is used for the morning and evening aarti. The attendance in the same also can be pre-booked.

Helicopter Service Page Redesigned

There are some changes on the Helicopter Service page of the website.

Due to suspension of services provided by the Global Vectra, the Board has removed the links pertaining to the Global Vectra services. Now, link to only Pawan Hans services is available on the page. It is to be noted that there would be lesser numbers of available seats till the time issue is resolved.

Meanwhile as per local media report on 08-May-2012, Pawan Hans is carrying the passengers booked on Vectra for the time being. It says,
Quote:
As the Pawan Hans Helicopter Service is already operating from Katra to Sanjhi Chhat, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDB) has asked the firm to also carry the pilgrims having advance booking with suspended operator," sources added.

They said the Pawan Hans chopper today operated over 100 flights and carried about 1100 pilgrims from Katra to Bhawan and vice versa.
