Hi All,

I, with my family, am planning to go for the darshan on 30th of September 2014.
Just had few queries in my mind. How will be the rush now, i mean due to ongoing navratras.? And is it safe now to travel there at this time because I keep on hearing from people about the floods as they say its not a good time to visit the state. Please help me on this and if anyone of you have been there recently kindly reply as it would be of great help.!

Thank you.

Going on Navratr's means heavy rush.

Recently I read a story where a family visited Vaishno Devi(Badrinath in other example) on a long weekend and was caught in heavy rush and landslide/rains ending in a terrible experience. These days any long weekend or weekend means heavy rush in some tourist/holy sites. Also hilly areas in recent times are experiencing heavy rush and thus disasters.

So think about it.

There is heavy rush ... due to ongoing Navratra. But people are reaching there...

You may continue your trip if all the bookings are done. If not done, you may postpone it...

There is no issue due to flood at least in Jammu and Katra area. Yatra is going on.

if you visit the official website, you can see the number of visitors the shrine had the day before. It says 24000 right now, the peak(in march-april) is usually around 45000 per day, and the lowest is around december-january at 10000. (these figures are from when i checked the number during those periods, and a graph I saw giving the average daily visitors by month over the past some years. can't remember where i saw that graph though.)

I have been once to Vaishno devi in 1994 and that too during Navratra. The place was too crowded so it will take time for you to do darshan at shrine as the waiting queues are too long but as prakaant said, if the bookings are done then go ahead and do it. Its nothing like impossible.

The road condition from Jammu to Katra is good.

Weather would be little chilly. You should carry woolens accordingly.

There are plenty of hotels there and you may stay anywhere. IRCTC has also started a new hotel with spacious rooms at Katra Railway Station. You may check there.

If you go in sleeper, remember that the wind will chill you quite a bit, and the windows don't really close.

You should carry woolens with you as you will require it during trek.
