This is the (for lack of a better word) traditional kashmir travel itinerary. You cannot go wrong with it.
As for modifications / suggestions well everyone has an opinion. What might seem essential to me might be frivolous for you. We cannot suggest something unless we know things like: are you willing to extend your trip or what do you like / dislike...

Just to give you an idea, this photo was taken near patnitop.

Awesome photograph inditramp!
I intentionally ignored Sonmarg...given that travel dates are fixed can I fit in a Sonmarg trip?
Or had I included anything unimportant in the itenary?

Hi Sourav,

The itinerary seems quite good to me. Just one thing that I would like to add to your plan is Aru Valley. If you can manage to extend your trip for a day then you can stay at Aru. It's a small serene village surrounded by mountains located at distance of just 12Kms from Pahalgam.

You can check out my Kashmir TR for reference.

Saptarshi,

I have considered Aru Vally + Betab Vally in Pahelgam trip

By the way, As you have already visited, do you have any idea about how to get a postpaid SIM instantly? I've heard only postpaid SIM works there?

We are 3 persons travelling which includes my elderly mother. I have few more queries:
1) I have not booked hotels. I prefer booking hotel rooms only after examining them. Can that be a problem?
2) Standard hotel room cost in present day? I would prefer JKTDC hotels. Also Huoseboat rates if possible?
3) What is the check out time? 24hrs or not?
4) Should we book a cab for the entire trip starting from Jammu or Srinagar? Or consider booking a cab whenever needed? Budget wise which one would be better?
5) What is the public mode of transport? Is Bus service available from Jammu to Srinagar via Patnitop?

No, it should not be a problem. It is always better to hunt for hotels.

You may check the web for current prices.

3) What is the check out time? 24hrs or not?
You will get both types of hotels.

Booking a cab for entire trip always comes out cheaper.

5) What is the public mode of transport?
Tourists prefer buses, shared taxis and exclusive cabs.

All the vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar go via Patnitop.

Thanks prakkant. That was so nice of you to reply in detail.

If I wanted to add Sonmarg to my plan, without extending the trip length...what alterations in the plan I may think for? Plese suggest. I'm nt sure if Sonmarg can be covered in a day trip without making it too hectic?
My sister isn't at all happy with me, after she found Sonmarg missing in the itenary!!!

The Taxi rates are fixed officially which could be relied upon. If wished you may negotiate on it.

Generally tourists do Sonmarg as a day-trip from Srinagar, but you may not adjust Sonmarg in your itinerary. You may replace Yusmarg (though it is a very beautiful place to visit) with Sonmarg.

hello Sourav I recently visited Kashmir in March 15 . I paid Rs 2000/-per day for Innova from Srinagar. Maybe that time it was off season rate however you can contact the driver Javed with whom we travelled. he is a nice person.

You may spend Day 1 evening and Day 2 morning at Patnitop and proceed to Srinagar by 10 AM.

If you do so, you may swap Day 5 with Day 3 and you will have one extra day to obey your sis.

So, you may recarve your itinerary as follows:
  • Day 1: Reach Jammu by Noon/Afternoon. Shift to Patnitop (110+ km): Night stay at Patnitop
  • Day 2: Patnitop sightseeing in morning. Transfer to Srinagar. Night stay at Srinagar
  • Day 3: Srinagar local sightseeing
  • Day 4: Day trip Yousmurg. Night stay at Srinagar
  • Day 5: Day trip to Sonmarg. Night stay at Srinagar
  • Day 6: day trip to Gulmarg trip Night stay at Srinagar
  • Day 7: Shift to Pahelgam. Local sightseeing. Night stay at Pahelgam
  • Day 8: Pahelgam sightseeing. Night stay at Pahelgam
  • Day 9: Check out from hotel. Kokernag sightseeing while coming down to Jammu (250 km)
  • Day 10: Flight from Jammu in the afternoon
Note: If you really wish to spend a day at Patnitop, you may reduce one day from Pahelgam and adjust at Patnitop.
