I want to Seek advise on my vaishnodevi Trip in Aug 2013
I would be traveling to Vaishnodevi on Aug 9th from Mumbai. I will be taking Swaraj Express and reaching Jammu on 10th at about 3.00 PM and then proceed to Katra.

My time is very limited so i wanted your suggestions please

On the day of arrival ie 10th Aug I was thinking of taking ponies to reach Bhawan. So i assume i should start my Trek by atleast 10.00 Pm on 10th Aug (Provided its not raining heavily) or else will start on 11th early morning and then back or should i walk till ardhkuwanri and take Battery operated vehicle irrespective if its raining or not as i have to catch a train back to New Delhi on 11th Evening at 9.00 PM.

I would request you to give me your valuable suggestions please

You will find battery-operated vehicles only between Adhkuwari and Bhawan. But, it remains non-operational during the periods specially during night.

You must try leaving Katra on 10th August itself else you will have to rush to catch your train on 11th.

Your best option, as you have selected, would be ponies. It will help you in easy and fast transportation.

Anyone, please suggest the avaialbility of Bus services to Jammu/Katra in Day-time. Any Travels to book ticket is highly helpful. There are plenty of Buses Private and Govt ones. Ordinary and luxury buses are available from Jammu to Katra at a frequency of 10-15 minutes. While ordinary buses can be boarded from the State Road Transport Bus Stand around 1 km from Jammu Railway Station, luxury buses are available from just outside the Railway Station. It takes around 2 hours to cover the 50 km stretch from Jammu to Katra. The terrain is hilly and winding and passengers often experience nausea and vomiting. Private Taxies for Katra are available from the Jammu Tawi Railway Station and Jammu Airport. A taxi would normally take 70-80 minutes to reach Katra from Jammu. You could get more info on www.maavaishnodevi.org.

Thanks Harish. I looked and checked the site. I am looking for Buses from Delhi to katra on 10th Aug, 2013 morning times 7am to 9am.

I read Cameras, Mobile Phones are not allowed in the track to Bhavan. is it true?
What are allowed and what not, can anyone clearly explain. Any new recent changes in restrictions on carrying the things.

Thanks

There seems to be no bus between Delhi to Katra or Jammu between 7 am to 9 am, as all the buses start in the evening. You will have to wait till evening if you insist on bus.

The Best bet for you would be train in afternoon to Jammu Tawi. There is one train: 14645 Shalimar Express DELHI Dep 15:50 JAMMU TAWI Arr 05:15 AM (on 11th August).

Yes for sure people do travel by Road and in Ideal Situations it should not take one to reach Jammu more than 9 hours however there are more chances of traffic enroute. I havent travelled by road personally ever from New Delhi to Jammu however on searching for details on google thats what i have found out. Maybe you could be right that he can travel by road and not get traffic otherwise as you suggested Afternoon Train might be ideal for him.

No, Harish, a person will get traffic while traveling by road but it won't be like a traffic jam, I believe.

We generally suggest alternatives in mode of travel, which a person asks and let's leave on the person to decide which one suits best.

It should be converted to RAC status (confirming at least seating and berth being allotted in side the bogey).

I got the tickets in 3A in Shalimaar express. I reached katra on aug 11, at 8 AM, and taken the yatra slip and started trekking up at 9 AM. I reached there at 5 PM and as I walk slowly and my legs paining a lot.
Had darshan at 9:30Pm and slept in Saraswati Bhavan. Next day early morning 12 th Aug, started walking down at 8Am and reached BanGanga check post at 2 PM. I got the Bus to Jammu at 2:30 PM. In jammu at 4:30 PM. caught the train duranto at 7:20 PM and reached delhi at 4 am in the morning.
