Holy shrine Vaishno Devi

From Delhi you can get lot of trains to Jammu viz, Jammu mail or Shalimar Express etc.Just from outside the Jat railway station you will get buses to Katra. It will take about 2 hrs. several times passengers and the bus will undergo security checks en route.Buses ply half an hour interval. Getting Katra first you get the parchi (challan)from the office which is at the bus terminus. In the rush time temporary parchis are issued and you have to change it at the scheduled time. Then take a auto to the starting point of the walk (11/2 kms.)from the bus terminus. You may also take pony. After 1 kms.at Banganga get your parchi stamped.Through out the trek you will get tea, snacks, bottled water and bathrooms also.It is better to walk over night.Road lights are plenty. After reaching the top once again submit your parchi to the counter and get the new batch number. There you will get rest rooms, restaurant and free blankets even by depositing Rs.100/= each as per the no. of members shown in your parchi.Your luggages will undergo x-ray test.Accordingly your batch nos. will you stand in the Q and visit Holy shrine. There you will get cloak rooms also. Nothing except money is allowed inside the shrine. Not even medicines.Nothing means nothing. This procedure is for the time of extreme rush other wise you not to have stand in the long Q.There is no arrangement of offering pujas. Helicopter services are also available from Katra. Plenty of hotels of different categories are available in Katra.

Due to a computer malfunction, my post gets tagged as posted "yesterday" and goes off the main page a few moments after I post it.

Information posted by sanjay is very good for people who can do this on weekend. I think this is best option...with very reasonable price.

If you want to come to VAISHNO DEVI TEMPLE in other days than you can reach by train to JAMMU.
Reach KATRA and have darshan in morning. Come back to Katra and stay in hotel and then start your journey for DELHI. This is travel with ease plan where you are rushing...you stay in KATRA for 2 nights and when you board train for DELHI-i am sure youwill not be boarding train with pain in muscles !
