Does anyone know if the much vaunted plan to give tourists mobile access on arrival is working anywhere yet, Delhi? Jaipur?

As per the reports here the plan is still on paper. I hope you are aware that the welcome pack is for e-visa.

Oh that's a shame, especially as we have a six month visa . but some of our group will have evisas and will be disappointed. Just about to set out on our fourth trip and very excited to be coming again. So much for the once in a lifetime one five years ago!

If your group is travelling with the services of an Indian travel agent, ask him or her to lend your group a SIM card or two for the trip.

Go to an Airtel shop and just do it. I was so clueless (poor vision) they ended up filling in the form themselves..

From that link, "To avail pre-loaded Sim Card, BSNL will collect e-Visa copy and the first page of passport from foreign tourists on arrival at the airport."

So it's best not to take advantage of the offer, because your passport is not valid if they remove the first page from it.

SIM welcome pack

Hi there,

Search for 'SIM welcome pack' has led me to this thread ...

A post in May on another forum site (* below) suggests that this system is now running and ...
Quote:
"All you need to do to pick up your SIM card is show a copy of your e-visa at the immigration counter."
... sounds waaaaaay too easy, can it be true ??

Returning to India via Mumbai airport in a few weeks time, for the first time in over twenty-five years, I am wondering if anyone here has (or knows of anyone who has) had actual experience of this system ??

Thank you,

Mark

Read http://www.indiamike.com/india/for-c...4/#post2058950, especially the link in the 3rd post by RPG.

Don't keep your hopes too high.

Hi aarosh,

Thanks for the pointer ...

Yes, it looks like the free SIM thing might exist, though it is certainly somewhat elusive.
Had a good read of the info linked to in that thread and post.
Then stumbled across the 'Buying a pre-paid SIM card in India as a foreigner’ thread :
http://www.indiamike.com/india/elect...gner-t8434/74/
[Shame my earlier search didn't find it; anyway, might be useful to anyone reading here who's not yet seen it ].

Thanks again,

Mark
