Hello forum, I'm new here. I'm presently living in Singapore but planning to move to India soon.

Overall, would you say India has many internet forums or is it not a trendy thing there?

That's a difficult question to answer. I suppose forums in general are a declining medium of communication.

Time to introduce myself.

Despite Facebook, Twitter, etc, of the forums I frequent daily, two are thriving, one or two are smaller but hiding their own.

One I used to frequent is said to be ensuring its owner's retirement. But... You can hardly see the content for the advertising and sponsors are protected from criticism.

If I wanted to find a internet forum for Indians, not for expats living in India, are there any?

https://old.reddit.com/r/india/ has a nice range of news articles, self created content, memes and dissent. It's a pretty active subreddit.

I doubt you'll find any one forum. Just like I do not know of any "one" forum for Americans, or NewYorkers ? They are spread across multiple forums of interest to an individual, his/her town, city, job, work =, transport etc etc

What would you say are the biggest forums you know of? I can explain why I'm trying to find out if you're interested.

No idea ! I do know there are many regional language based, and special interests groups on cricket, and cooking on facebook. I'd let India based members here on IM to chime in...

Try Indiamike

Many of our members and contributors are Indian born and resident, NRI, Indian-origin abroad... we have all sorts. Some of us non-Indian-origin residents are more immigrants than expats, by which I mean we are more simply living life here rather than foreign pursuits.

Yeah, I'm with Nick. You're on an Indian forum here already, soooo ... what exactly are you looking for?

In fact, we have very few of what I (personal definition; others may have their own) would call "expats." For instance, those on an employment posting here. We used to have one or two, but now they tend to disappear after getting help with their initial and basic questions. Which is a shame: all perspectives welcome! There are many such people in India, but Indiamike, notsomuch. I'm afraid that even I have pointed them towards Internations as a useful resorce. Not free, but hey, expat management can easily afford. As they can the expensive-to-a-local five-star-location meets.

This is not to infer that all "locals" are necessarily poor, and certainly not that they are mean. Just that... there are social bubbles, some bubbles cluster together quite easily, and others float around with zero contact.

That is not necessarily a criticism: my pastime is a minority interest (most of the world's classical/serious musics are) mostly practised/attended by a minority community. That defines my bubble. There are others. But personally knowing an auto driver or two doesn't make me a part of auto-driver bubble, whereas I interact with the music community to an extent that does.

What's your bubble? Or what bubble(s) are you interested in clustering with?

Thanks for the info guys. Okay so I'm working on a youtube channel in which I'll be going around India Interviewing local women about various topics. However, for this to work I'd need to find help from people since I still don't fully understand the culture and I can't speak Hindi or Tamil. I didn't want to bother people here with that but I am not sure how to go about it.
